IS is based on a Corolla platform, GS is based on Camry, and LS is based on the Avalon. They're not independent platforms, the only Japanese car manufacturer to do that is Nissan/Infiniti. The G (Nissan Skyline in Japan) is its own platform but shares some of its drivetrain with the Z, the M (Nissan Fuga in Japan) is its own platform. The Smaller SUV is based on the G, the Mid sized SUV is based on the M, and the large SUV is based on the Nissan Armada.

I never liked the fit and finish of Lexus, the outsides looked nice but the interiors looked as cheap as a Toyota interior. Maybe its changed in the 5 years + I've looked at one.

Good luck with your issue, call Lexus I highly doubt they would condone the treatment of a potential customer like this. http://www.lexus.com/contact/ A lot of times these dealers do asshat things thinking you will never tell corporate.

I am not a lexus fan but you're also wrong. The lexus IS, GS, and LS are all rwd vehicles while the three toyotas you mentioned are FWD vehicles. Definitely not the same platform.

It depends on what Lexus s/he is buying. If it is the ES, RX, GX, or LX than yeah they are based on the Camry, Highlander, 4Runner( I believe), and Land Cruiser. The IS, GS, and LS are on their own unique platforms.

More the Land Cruiser Prado, which is a related, but different vehicle from the 4Runner.

I have no idea why the LX and the GX exist. Completely nonsensical vehicles.

I was using the 4Runner since the Prado isn't sold here in the US. They are both on the same platform.

But again, the 4Runner and Prado are different vehicles based on the same platform. They have different wheelbases, different ride heights and they perform and behave differently both on and off road. Due to the different underpinnings, the 4Runner/Hilux Surf is actually suitable to haul cargo and be a general utility vehicle and is used as such. The Prado is really just a people hauler.

OTOH, the GX is just a badge engineered Prado. They're essentially the same vehicle with different options.

I get that. Yes, the GX is closer to relation to the Prado than 4Runner. Most people in the US are not usually aware of automakers international offerings or which vehicle is badged as what in different markets. I simply stated the GX is based off the same platform as the 4Runner so there is a connection with Americans.

If I said the Cadillac XTS and Opel Insignia are both on Epsilon II, most Americans will not know what I am talking about. But, they will if I used the Buick Regal instead( yes, I know the XTS rides on a longer version of EPII). Just using vehicles most Americans will recognize since we are talking about Lexus.....

This or voice your opinion to Lexus USA if you really want a Lexus. Personally I wouldnt bother and go for another brand.

Like MINI!

I think I remember reading you bought a Countryman S All4, right?

Mine is True Blue with a white roof and white stripes. I couldn't get some of the options I wanted, thought, like the split seats in the back and the premium audio because they were unavailable in Korea.

Its funny that you say this because I've had a very similar experience. my suggestion to you is that, since you know that the discount can happen, go to the dealership in person. face to face with a sales person who feeds off commission will more than likely work with you to make the sale on the spot.

just show boat for them and seem a bit uninterested until they can give you a deal. don't bring up the situation that occurred over the phone. just pull them on the string they are trying to pull you by.

It's on order. Just left the manufacture and on a ship right now, should arrive end of the month. Mine is black on black on black. I'm too cheap to get the 18" black wheels cause they are $1800 plus I would have to get winter tires and wheels. Canada doesn't offer 17" black wheels for free even though mine is a custom order. :roll eyes:

Sorry for the highjack. :p

IS is based on a Corolla platform
WRONG
GS is based on Camry
WRONG
LS is based on the Avalon.
WRONG AGAIN

for good measure, yup, WRONG again
Corolla is a completely different economy fwd chassis, IS is based the rwd Altezza platform. GS, again completely different rwd platform (ES, RX etc are Camry based). LS, lol, seriously, Avalon? It's larger rwd chassis once again. Avalon is a stretched Camry ie. fwd platform which now the new ES is based on hence being larger than before.

I don't care for Lexus but not sure where you got your info from...

They probably won't give you their best numbers until you go in person. If they won't go down to a number you like, just walk out.

They'll call you back.
