Does anyone know how many watts the USB-C port outputs for laptop charging? Will it charge a MBP?

I bought this monitor from Amazon in Sept 2017, and am using it with a Sept 2017 MacBook Pro.

* It is a beautiful monitor for non gaming use.
* The USB C cable that comes with your MacBook won't work (that cable is for charging only).
* This USB C cable works well for the display, BUT does not charge the laptop:
(Nekteck USB-IF Certified USB C 3.1 GEN 2 Cable (10 Gbps 100W) USB C to USB C Cable Cord C to C with 4K Video & Power Delivery up to 100 Watts For MacBook Pro Galaxy Note 8 Pixel 2/ Black 3.3 Feet)

* Does anyone know of a USB C cable, or have a configuration suggestion, to get this monitor to actually charge my MacBook?

Thanks!

You will need a monitor that support power delivery first, not the cable.

@lflf2052 This monitor does indeed support charging via the USB C cable.

Unfortunately, per the LG support technician who had actual info on another site (instead of useless snark), it does not supply anywhere near enough power to run a MacBook Pro.

Overclockers says it provides 40w, this should be enough to charge a macbook 12 ?

i got this monitor as well, I think it will charge though there is a different issue. When the monitor goes to "sleep" it stops charging. So if your Mac still on, or is backing up at night, it will drain the battery somewhat.

I’m running boot camp. Win10 will do 60hz. I think there is a hack for Mac OS to get it to 60

I'm running this monitor off a iMac Retina Late 2014 via mini display port to display port. Text doesn't seem super clear, although I still really like the monitor. Is it possible that the Late 2014 iMac may be to blame for the less clear text, or is it a limitation of this monitor?

i think its the down side of the size of the screen. For me it's fine. If i look very close i can see the pixels. But it's 43"...something got to give. Maybe 8k in that size will be better. But for the price, size, performance etc, i'm very happy with it.

Update. Fonts not as clear as on Retina iMac display, but I experimented with turning off font smoothing and it does appear to help with the look of the text on the LG display.

OK. I apparently was imagining things because when I rebooted after unchecking font smoothing, fonts looked worse. Reenabled font smoothing and looks better. I guess with your own equipment, milage may vary. Just thought I'd chime in one more time, so I don't mislead with my earlier post.

I just got this monitor and I LOVE it, but I cannot get it to charge my 2017 13" MBP either. After reading here it sounds like it doesn't give enough juice to do so. Crazy with a monitor this size, it should charge anything...

I also can't get it to pass video with the Amazon-bought USB-C cable. I'm still new to the world of Dongletown...I mean USB-C, but I'm guessing Thunderbolt 3 is required to pass video? I'm using an HDMI-USB-C cable, which is ok, but now I have a USB-C port that really doesn't do anything...

Thoughts?

Mine charges my MBP 15” 2017.
Though it will charge only when the monitor is ON. So I ended up charging with a separate charger.

Regarding cable, yes you need the right cable, you probably have a “charge only” cable. Been there myself ;)

This cable on amazon wors for me:
USB Type C Cable 3.3ft (1m) - Type C to Type C Reversible - USB 3.1 Super Speed Gen 2 - 100w/5a - Metalic Gray with Braided wire - Fast Data Sync & Charging

With this cable I was able to pass all usb devices (mouse keyboard) transmit 4k at 60Hz and charge.

And yeah this monitor is awesome.

So you're plugging into one of the regular USB 3.0 ports in the monitor? The link you sent is USBC to USB 3.0.

I'm hoping to use just a USBC to USBC cable.

I love this monitor and I was about to get it BUT, being a BGR panel, is not a problem the BGR subpixel rendering for text? Every one says that the problem with the macs with that.
Cheers

So apparently this is a BGR panel and some advise a remedy for Macs is to mount upside down? Has anybody tried this?

Has anyone gotten this monitor to work with their 2017 MBP and display 4k at 60hz? I am thinking it is not possible. I have mine all hooked up but it only outputs 30hz. Im using usb to hdmi 2.0 adapter that supports 60hz, and i am using a premium cable that suports it. Im plugged into the 60p hdmi port on the monitor. But its not outputting 60hz.

Is it not a supported feature?
