Does MacOS give you the option of "Rotation" on the LG 5k display?

I just wanted to let any interested members know that this feature is working as of Mohave DP 8. It seems our constant pestering has finally paid off!

Just goes to show that if something is seriously broken, you shouldn't give up on getting Apple to fix it.

That’s awesome! I was hoping they would take care of it eventually. Thanks for keeping us all up to date.

Is the fix actually mentioned in the release notes or did you just try it and saw that it worked?

I didn't check out the release notes, and this is the first mohave DP I'm running. Given that night shift is also working, I suspect this is going to have been a deliberate change, as opposed to something accidental that might be reverted before release. Fingers crossed, anyway!

Yeah, I won't hold my breath. BTW, night shift has (for the most part) been working on my 5K under High Sierra. Only issue I'll occasionally run into is where one of the two 5Ks connected won't show the night shift option but the other does. A restart will usually fix this.

I just got a Mac mini 2018, bought the UltraFine 5K, only to discover now that there are issues with rotation. I don't have the rotation option at all in Sys Preference. If anyone has any idea, it would be most welcomed. I thought the issue was fixed with Mojave, but apparently not.

Ok, I found a solution in the meantime! :)

I can confirm that this works in Mojave and it's fairly easy to use as long as you installed Xcode and don't mind the terminal

I seriously don't understand what happened with Apple there. I mean the screen itself is gorgeous, but not being to rotate it because of what seems like a bug of a missing feature is really sad. You hear people on podcasts, like the trio on ATP, say that Apple really deserted the Mac, but you don't fully grasp it until you encounter something that annoying and ridiculous.

Is anyone having issues with their LG 5k monitors where in "System Preferences > Displays" there is no option to rotate the display? I have reached out to Apple Support and they say that it is an LG 5k monitor firmware issue. Both MacOS and my LG 5k monitors have been updated to the latest version.

I have attached a couple of images that shows how my settings look for the monitor and the system report for the video card.

Edit:
Added screen capture of one of the LG 5k monitors rotated using SwitchResX. You can see that the display is partially rotated and the black part of the screen is unusable.

I will also like to point out that at some point, months ago, I was able to rotate one of the two LG 5k monitors and when I looked at the system report, under the Radeon 460, it did say that the monitor supported rotation. It just doesn't say it anymore. I even bought the Apple TB3 cables and to see if it was a cable problem, but I am still having the same issue.

I have a MacBook Pro 2016 attached to a LG UltraFine 5K Display (27MD5KL).

1. Go to Apple | Settings | Displays | Display tab
2. Resolution: Select Scaled
3. Rotation: Select a choice
