No one is going to buy a thousand dollar watch.
justinthesommer.com
Have you looked at the Tourneau catalog lately?
Actually, since rumors say they plan to make tens of millions of watches, the price must be low. I'm guessing $499 to start but maybe $399? $299 would be very pleasant indeed. In any case I'm sure this will be a stylish watch, totally different from the current monstrosities seen to date.

Why? Not saying that any of the rumours are plausible - but I don't think the screen alone defines the price of a device - take Vertu (yuck) for example...

(talking about Vertu, it is interesting how they state that the sapphire is "unscratchable" on this one, if Apple is able to use this on a non-ultra high end phone, it could be extremely well received by the consumers

You certainly may be right, but somehow paying a few grand to see a row of iOS icons on my wrist doesn't sound appealing. And personally, I don't see the mockup in this article looking great with a thousand dollar band on it. IMO, this mockup looks like a sport or everyday casual watch. Sapphire crystal is the way to go. I won't rule out the Apple watch until I see it hands on, and pricing will be key too.

round watches don't really settle for me..

I wanna look at something face on, not have to start turning my wrist and cracking my bones just to see something 'cool''

I agree - I don't find this mockup or the idea of an iOS icon strap appealing either, even less I could care about any fitness/health related functionality, especially not for a few thousand $ - not even for a few hundred $. The mockups of an "iWatch" are simply what they are right now - mockups that aren't even based on any rumors, parts, molds or anything, so at least for now the product itself could end up being anything.

If it's a sport watch and waterproof and shockproof with some iOS functionality, and priced well, I'm not personally opposed at this point in time. If it looks like a skinny iPod touch screen and it's mainly so you don't have to take your phone out of your pocket, I'm not so interested. If it's an improvement on a Casio or something that will take a bit of pounding...... we'll see. I certainly don't see it as a Rolex competitor like some did in the other thread. I don't think that Apple would ever go that route. They will be looking to sell these by the millions, tens of millions and that ain't happening with a $2000 product. For a couple of hundred, depending on how it looks and what it does, I remain open minded.

I agree, I have a couple of watches that I paid almost $1,000 for, but I can't see paying more than $300 or $400 for an iWatch because it's something that won't last forever. My watches I will have for the rest of my life. A couple of them I have had for about 10 years already. I imagine an iWatch will be outdated in a couple of years.

EDIT: I can't see myself buying the "band" mockup watches that keep showing up...but if it's like one of these two I will likely purchase.

Swiss watch industry is a pretty large industry that continues to grow.

1000 dollars is among the cheapest watches in the world of mechanical watches.
Although the apple watch won't be competing with midrange (5000 to 10000 USD) to high-end (15000 USD and up) luxury watches, the lower range among Swiss and non-Swiss watches (1000 USD and up) might be in for a shock.

Personally I hope the device will be less watch and more new category of device.
I do not want to wear a watch worn by everyone else.

With that said, I would guess that the apple watch won't cost more than 500 dollars.
Around 500 dollars, your only options are really beater watches like G-shocks and other nearly disposable quartz watches.

I know there are watches that are way above $1,000, but basically that I'd be willing to spend $1,000 (probably not much more at my current income) on a watch, but not an iDevice that will be taking the place of one of my seiko watches.

Yes I got you :)

I don't think apple will make the mistake of trying to sell a mass market device/watch that costs more than $1000 because the mass market will not bear that price point.

I was debating whether or not your reply about the $1,000 being cheap was addressed to me saying an iWatch is ok at a large price tag. I didn't think that was the case, but replied anyhow.

I agree, I hope they make it "mass market" affordable. I know several people that won't spend more than $40 for a watch. So yeah this would be a new category, and will be priced as such.

It did scare me when they speculated the watch could cost several thousand.

I really hope it's those band ones for me.
I really want to wear this device with watches not wear it to replace my watch...

Several thousand analyst is probably a ****ing idiot newb.
If it does cost several thousand, then it will be a beta run like the Google Glass, not really a final product Apple is trying to sell.
Apple is not a high-end luxury brand. Several thousand for a digital watch is just stupid.

I can see that, and I think that will fit a lot of people. I may try it if it's like one of those bands, but I am really hoping it's not. I have almost pulled the trigger on a fitbit a couple of times, but have been waiting to see what Apple does. I don't like wearing "jewelry" I don't even wear my wedding band. The only thing I wear besides my clothes is a watch.

Agreed.

More than likely that's exactly what it will be, a watch worn by everyone else, just like the iPhone, everyone has one. Exclusivity and Apple aren't two terms that go together, IMO.

I like the concepts you posted better than the iOS on a band type. What do you think about the Moto 360? It looks pretty good too me from what they have shown, which really isn't much.

What I meant was I would love to have an Apple device that isn't trying to replace my watch because I would like to have a uncommon watch but would love to wear a common apple device.

Apple using LG again!!! Please say it ain't so....I wanted a beautiful display for my iWatch.

I would be willing to bet a significant sum of money that this mockup isn't even close to the real thing.

Perhaps I'll be proven wrong (and I would be delighted if so), but what I think was so cool about the original iPhone introduction was that mockups of the anticipated hardware were all completely off base and far less cool than the actual product Apple made. The same could be said about the Mac Pro.

With the iWatch, however, I feel like the mockups may well exceed the "coolness" and style of the actual product. I'm not sure they could actually manufacture something as awesome as the mockup shown in this article. (for one thing, there is no bezel to the display).
Given the nature and limitations of a digital watch form factor, there is probably only so much that can be done... It's hard to imagine how they could totally revolutionize the form factor. I think it's more likely that the iWatch won't be all that different than what people expect, perhaps with some cool iphone/ipad integration and unique biometric sensors...

It looks decent, but I haven't looked into it much yet. I have mixed feelings about Motorola from my years of using different products from them. They have great products and a lot of crappy ones too. I think Motorola is now own or controlled by Google, which I think could be good.

Google sold Motorola to Lenovo but I don't know if the sale is complete yet or not. Motorola usually makes phones with strong rf performance that work well in weak signal areas.

Oh I didn't know that. Lenovo makes some nice looking products, they are the ones who bought IBM right? It will be interesting to see how the moto watch turns out. The little bit that shows up on the motorola webpage looks awesome.
