Why would they have both a 1.3" and a 1.5" version? Seems like the difference is too small to make sense. More like they're testing those sizes to see which one is better, if there is any truth to it at all.

Sounds like the difference between a men's watch diameter and a women's watch diameter.

Yeah, when the scale is a watch size, tiny increments make a big difference.

1.3 = ~33mm
1.5 = ~38mm

There was even mention of a 1.7”, which is ~43mm, and that’s noticeably bigger than 38 when you look at it on a wrist. A 33mm would look undersized on most men’s wrists.

FWIW, those two sizes seem a little small to me. Someone in this/another thread was suggesting the 43mm was a “bling” size, but it’s not that huge, it’s probably what I’d say is on the larger size, but still a reasonably traditional style.

I’m thinking the most common [mid-range brand] size for men is 40-41mm.

They are probably saving a few millimeters for some extra bezel space for people to complain about until the next upgrade.

I could do a 38mm watch, but once you get over 42mm it get's clunky, and sometimes heavy depending on the type of watch, a chrono. I can't imagine an iWatch would be lighter, though the battery will add some weight.

I just want a phone companion to the ipad mini/ipad/iPod.

Calls, text, mobile hotspot, music control and maybe like a pedometer or some other sensors and I will be lining up to buy it.

App for the ability to type out texts on the ipad is a bonus.
If there's a keyboard on the watch, swype-style is a bonus.

Waterproof and sapphire glass is magical.

You can't be serious...

Apple making a men's and women's watch? What next? You think it will have a circular display, too? Maybe the women's version will have some pretty diamonds around the bezel.

Not going to happen. They're not shoving modern tech into the guise of a tradition watch. Do Fuel Bands or Fit Bits have different versions for men and women?

I don't think you get it. Apple are not making a watch like you think. People who think that Apple are going to come up with something like a cross between a Rolex and an iPhone are talking moonshine. The concept of a watch being some solid chunk that you attach to your wrist via straps is dead outside some niches, old people, or people who like cufflinks.

Women and men have different wrist sizes.
Why is this surprising??

I hope whatever Apple is doing is better than this. I just can't see people wanting to wear something clunky like this on their wrist.

I am not claiming Apple is or isn't, but the size difference is typical of a man and woman's watches.

Fuel Bands come in 3 sizes and I believe fitbit comes in two sizes......Still so hard to believe?

Though I am talking about a watch face diameter. I man's watch is typically about .2 inches larger than a woman's watch.

Maybe Apple will have two sizes if they can't get one size to work properly. But they won't come out with a "men's" and a "women's" watch. Neither FitBit or the FuelBand do.

Oh noes,really?

Heaven forbid, the watch industry has been making men's and women's watches for so long, and we have got an epidemic of people with watches that don't fit them. If only there was a better way.

There is a better way. It's what Apple, Nike (to some degree), and FitBit are doing. These are modern companies who don't believe in gender-specific products unless there is an obvious need that isn't based on an individual's values.

I'm not saying they won't have two sizes. I already conceded that point many posts ago.
