I am thrilled with the C7 and ATV 4k combo. I am happy with my picture settings, but will keep an eye on this thread to see about tweaks. I do have a couple of questions that I am hoping are appropriate to this thread...

1) I am using external speakers (Sonos Playbar, but I'd imagine this is common to any external speakers). Does anyone know a way to get the mute icon to not appear on screen when adjusting volume?

2) Has anyone had success getting the LG Magic remote to control the volume (ie - mimic the ATV remote)? For my old TV, I had a Harmony remote which I programmed with the AppleTV volume controls, so as far as my overall system was concerned, the Harmony was the ATV remote. This may be my setup because of the Sonos Playbar, which only supports 1 remote at a time, so I have it set to respond to the AppleTV remote since I use it 95% of the time.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the 2nd problem above doesn't have anything to do with the ATV or the LG TV/remote. The ATV is recognizing volume from the LG remote (via HDMI CEC). The issue is that the Sonos Playbar is IR only, and connected to the TV via optical and not HDMI. When I use the AppleTV remote, the Playbar is adjusting based on the IR signal. So unless there is a way to get the LG remote to mimic the ATV remote, then I am out of luck.

Correct, it's the Sonos you are turning the volume up on, not the TV. I bought the PlayBase unit when I bought my C7 so when you have the audio output set to Optical Out only you can't use the TVs remote to turn the sound up or down.
But, if you set the sound out to LG Sound Sync the normal audio sound level appears, instead of the mute icon, when you turn the audio on the Sonos up or down using the ATV remote. It sort of mimics the audio level in effect.

That seems to then send everything to the Playbar as stereo, not 5.1. I will live with the mute icon, although by today's standards of so many people using external audio, I have no idea why the software developers feel the need to clutter the screen with such nonsense.

B7 and Sonos Playbar, sub and 2 play 1 here.

Apple TV remote works, controls the Playbar via IR.
Magic remote works, controls the Playbar and shows +/- on screen.
Dolby 5.1 works as expected.
All good!

Go here and for information to set up the tv:

More information from Sonos:

I’m actually using Harmon Kardon as Playbar in settings, but philips seems to work as well.

Well, yes and no. The method shown on the Sonos site works, but the sensitivity/reception on the AppleTV remote controlling the Playbar's volume is much worse. I know this is not an AppleTV issue. Really, it is Sonos that needs to improve the Playbar to accept multiple remotes.

Edit: It is as if the LG remote goes into a sleep mode. If I put both remotes down for a bit, then try to use the AppleTV remote for volume, it will not work. I just need to pick up the LG remote...literally, don't even have to use it...and then the AppleTV volume control works.

Don’t have this issue, could be that I set up the Apple TV remote in Sonos app, think I set all remotes up in both Sonos app and in the Apple TV config... can’t check the config now. Keep on trying, I don’t have your issue.

I appreciate the help...I've tried countless times, in various orders. Sonos specifically states it only supports 1 remote. So unless the Apple remote can replicate the LG (or vice versa), I cannot see this working as I'd hoped. The only true issue is volume while using the LG remote. Since I use the Apple remote nearly exclusively, it is really not a big deal.

I have the magic remote set up with the Apple TV, I can control the Apple TV with both the Apple remote and the magic remote. So I guess the Sonos app think it’s the same remote.
I remember I had some struggles during setup, but I didn’t record all the steps I went through.
Could this be it, can you control your Apple TV with the LG magic remote?

Technically I got it working...but it just was not working well or consistently. It is as if the LG remote goes into a sleep mode. I have that exact combo and I'm happy with it. I use it mostly for Netflix and iTunes movie streaming and the picture quality is surprisingly good. Some of the non-HDR content looks a little "glowey" to me because of the way the ATV if forcing HDR on all content, but like you said, when the update rolls out, I think that will be fixed.

I have the 55” C7 but concur completely.

THIS!!! I have the exact same problem. Offering $10 to whoever comes up with a consistent working solution for me.

I have LGC7 tv, Sonos Playbase, and aTV 4k. I want to be able to use both remotes (LG Magic remote and aTV 4k remote) to control the Sonos volume. I can get either one working great by itself, but cannot get the aTV to consistently work in combo with the LG Magic. Totally agree with Jdag that it appears the process "goes to sleep" if I haven't used the LG Magic remote for a few minutes.

YES, I know Sonos will not work with two different remotes sending two different sets of volume codes. So how do I get these two different remotes to send the SAME volume codes? There must be a way but for the life of me I can't get it consistently working. PLEASE HELP AND TAKE MY $10.

BTW does the volume command from your iPhone work differently in that "faling asleep" aspect? I.e. can you control volume consistently via iPhone?

Same setup here. I was under the impression that the magic remote won’t work with the Sonos due to it not being an IR remote.

I have it all working. Though I have the lg b7, European version. Could the remotes be different?
Mine looks like this:

I'm in the UK, when trying to do the Sonos remote setup it doesn't see the remote as it's not IR. Apple Remote no problem, Sky TV remote no problem for both TV and Sonos.

So you are still trying to use IR remote to command all things?
I, for instance use mostly my TV remote only, it can control all things via HDMI CEC.
Success rate is variable, of course, because aTV 4K in general keeps dropping out from CEC.

Not me no. I use the Sky TV remote or the ATV to adjust the volume on the Sonos, or something the +/- buttons on my phone :D I rarely use the actual TV remote.

I see. And you are saying, you see no CEC-glitches with your setup? How is your system laid out and what HDMI connections do you have?
This aTV 4K has been much more picky in staying alert on CEC-line, than the previous aTV 4. For me, at least. I have all devices connected to AVR and it's output goes to TV input with ARC return line.

HDMI from the ATV, then Optical from the TV to the Sonos. Just have it set to Optical Out on the C7, don't see any other way to do it really when switching sources? Regardless of course source, sound is playing to the Sonos.

I can control Sonos volume just fine with the iPhone app--no issues whatsoever. iPhone app does not experience same "falling asleep" problem as the aTV remote.

My LG C7 Magic remote (purchased in U.S.) looks like that as well, but maybe there's an internal difference.

I've not noticed any issues in controlling Sonos volume with any other device. The only problem is when I "fake" the remote into being a DVD player remote such as Philips, and then try to use both the LG and ATV remotes to control Sonos volumes. It works sometimes, but "sleeps" at other times.

I am really not expecting to get both to work well, and use the ATV remote nearly exclusively anyhow, so will live with it.

Can you turn your LG tv off with the aTV remote? Mine doesn't work. If, on the aTV remote, i press and hold the square TV box (top right), it will put my aTV to sleep. The LG tv goes dark for about 5 seconds and then goes into screen saver mode and says "no inputs". I have CEC enabled with the aTV hooked up to HDMI input #4, so shouldn't sleeping the aTV also turn off the tv?

Trying so hard to get down to one dang remote...
