Can you turn your LG tv off with the aTV remote? Mine doesn't work. If, on the aTV remote, i press and hold the square TV box (top right), it will put my aTV to sleep. The LG tv goes dark for about 5 seconds and then goes into screen saver mode and says "no inputs". I have CEC enabled with the aTV hooked up to HDMI input #4, so shouldn't sleeping the aTV also turn off the tv?

Trying so hard to get down to one dang remote...
Yes, I use my AppleTV remote to out the LG TV to sleep. I am using HDMI1, but I don't believe that it matters. There is a setting on the TV under General ---> Simplink. Be sure that it is on.

Yes, it should. But the CEC is one of the most unreliable protocols I've ever encountered. This problem can be down to your TV, the aTV or even your particular setup (what other devices you have connected).
tvOS 11 implementation of CEC is not the best either. In my setup, my aTV 4K constantly loses CEC (it loses its logical address). It can be pretty easily revived (by forcing the TV to re-list all CEC devices and reassigning addresses), but still unreliable and creates annoyance.

My Siri remote works to turn my LG off. I might recommend restarting both devices. The LG TV you’ll have to unplug to get it to reboot.

Just realised, by accident, that the LG remote does control the ATV for normal menu use. Which is fine by me as I'm having the crappy lag issues again with the Siri remote. Although I have ordered one of the Belkin HDMI cables from the Apple Store which is suppose to help with the issue.

Anyone else having issues with Dolby Vision? I've noticed some dark scenes are blown out. It looks like the backlight is on when it shouldn't be (even the black borders around the picture are too bright). Here is an example. Happens in both Netflix and iTunes. Any suggestions?

oh wow. That looks like an edge lit LCD. Do you have "Deep Color" (I think that is the setting) turned on? That is what triggers HDR.

I believe it is, have to check. The tv indicates it is displaying in Dolby Vision when the movie/show starts. I don’t have this issue with HDR10.

Is it all DV content or just that certain show you are trying to watch? It could be something wrong with the DV grading on that particular show/movie.

Only happens with DV content, and only in certain dark scenes. It's also on different shows and movies.

Considering how smart the C7 is, I am surprised how many people have also decided to get Apple TV 4k. Any reasons behind this? I am just curious, because doesn't the C7 have all the main apps like Netflix and Amazon? Or is it because Apple TV 4k Netflix, for example, has better picture quality than the TV's own in-built Netflix app?

How does one stream apple content without it? There’s not native app for that.

Obviously I wasn't talking about that. I was just trying to figure out if the Apple TV 4k does anything better than the TV's own in-built apps. Or whether the reason for getting one was strictly to access Apple content.

Yeah... more the latter part for me. The built in LG apps have the same video quality as far as I can tell. The LG apps run a little slower as far as navigating etc. but otherwise the end result is the same.

I have not purchased a 4K ATV yet, but I plan to. The main reason is the "TV app". It aggregates content from netflix, hbo, showtime, amazon, etc. It is way easier to find a movie to randomly watch than searching 4 or 5 different services.

For me it's for my large iTunes movie library (I own over 1,000 BDs and as many digital copies), airplay streaming from my iPhone, and most recently that the ATV 4 and 4K act as a hub for smart devices. Plus the 'free' upgrade to 4K digital copies was a nice cherry on top.

This is a known problem with Dolby Vision content on the Apple TV 4K (elevated blacks with Dolby Vision content from the Apple TV 4K).

Interesting thing is that the same Netflix Dolby Vision content looks fine if you play it from the internal Netflix app of the TV.

I've only just recently realised that the setting on the 2017 LG's are content sensitive, so easy to calibrate for each HDR output for the ATV now that we have content match on tvOS too. I don't seem to have much problem getting DD HDR looking as it should. I'm tending not to use the LG app for Netflix and Amazon now both are available on ATV, so not so much an issue to be fair.

I opted for the Apple TV 4K mainly because of the remote and how easy it is to browse iTunes media. I do not like the LG TV remote, feels too glossy.

I was wondering this myself. I have both but use mainly thr C7 for Netflix. I don’t think there’s much difference picture quality wise though.

Combination of reasons for me, I already owned an ATV when I bought our first smart TV, plus it’s simpler just to work off one platform istead of jumping about between sources. Access to my home’s iMac database of locally stored movie, iTunes, photos in iCloud, which we have set for our screen saver. The only time recently I’ve used the TV’s smart section was to watch a couple of the BBC’s HLG 4K test broadcast, other than that not touched it since last year I guess.

For me it's because I have a library of over 1,000 movies in iTunes, mainly from digital copies coming with a blu-ray. Now that movies anywhere exists, it isn't as much as a big deal except for lionsgate and paramount.

Now, the exception for me is quality, and to that fact TO ME, the current version of ATV 4K is trash. VUDU through the B7/C7 with Atmos sound its a night and day difference over the muffled and diluted audio of the ATV 4K. Since I found out the B7/C7 had the Atmos update, I rarely use my ATV 4K except for iTunes only movies.
