I bet real robots will happen eventually. Imagine having an Apple Robot, Alienware Robot, Google Android, and Amazon Robot just roaming your home and being fully interactive with you, your family, your pets, and the other robots.

"Real robots" ???
Do you mean "real humans"?

(a very good series set in an alternative near-future where consumer-level humanoid robot workers and servants are widespread".)

"Surprising the wife", wasn't on my list. :D
Yes, "surprising the wife" would probably not be a "chore" per se, but your sexual preferences are none of my business - each to his own.

20 years ago, we were promised personal robots that we would control. They'd do all our heavy chores and never complain.

Then the cloud came along and we get this 'robot' that doesn't really do anything. And it's not even clear who's controlling it or who benefits.

What I want:
  • My laundry picked up off the floor, put in the hamper, the hamper dumped into the washing machine, the machine started, monitored and then everything moved to the dryer before being ironed and hung up in my closet.
  • Then the floors need vacuumed.
  • The car washed and vacuumed.
  • The lawn cut.
  • The windows cleaned.
  • The bathrooms cleaned.
  • Shoes shined.
  • Beds made.
  • The dishwasher loaded, started and then everything put back into all the right cupboards and drawers.
  • Oh yeah, and the dinner made! :)
That's what a real robot does. No complaints and no sneaking behind my back to tell Google and Amazon what a domestic slob I am!
You need to get married, a husband/wife can do all that. ;)

If we're talking robots in the future, why hasn't anyone mentioned Westworld or Black Mirror?

Please check your personal judgments about products at the door. We readers can see the image and make
our own value judgments; we don't need our reporters to tell us whether or not a product is 'adorable' -- that's biased reporting.

What? That's what reviewers do. And you most certainly do not get to speak for "We readers".

This is super cute.

Makes me think Nabaztag was way ahead of its time. it was kind of gimmicky and pointless but it did a lot of the same things, just minus the voice recognition. but it looked like a rabbit with wavy ears.

now I'm feeling sad for obsolete french robot rabbits. :(

Neat. Apple needs to step up their game and release their in home assistant asap. Meanwhile I just bought 6 amazon dots and I'm pretty happy with them.

is it something that you are using a lot now because it is new or do they actually integrate well enough into your life to make it worth it?

so, u'll have robots following u round with mini robots in every room... It's gets crowded

no time for chit-chat, i'm busy talking to a robot. Good for things to come.

They already have an assistant. It's called Siri. Why do I want to carry this big bulky thing to every room?

That's what the mini robots are for..

"The Hub Robot works best when placed in common areas of the house where family members tend to gather, such as the kitchen or the living room. To complement the Hub Robot, LG will also introduce mini robots that can be placed in other rooms in the house. Also equipped with a sleek visual display, these mini robots are extensions of the Hub Robot and can perform many of the same functions."

Oh my God, I'm a robot!:eek::eek: But sorry you can't have me. GrumpyDad has long term rights to my services. I run on chocolate and tea. Earl Grey, black...like Captain Picard...who is sometimes a Borg.o_O

Edit to add that GrumpyDad does help with some items on that list and neither of us owns shoes that need shining.

I find myself asking Alexa maybe 10 questions a day, ranging from asking her to wikipedia something, to statistics on how many calories are in something. So much easier then using siri (needs phone) or typing something. I need to get set up with Philips lightbulbs or something too. Would make everything even more awesome.

So is amazon. And probably the NSA.
Echo recording is no different then recording with siri. If you say "Hey Siri" your phone will record audio, and send it to apple to be decoded. Same with the echo. If people want this technology they have to realize how it works.

And imagine it being hacked and killing you, your family and your pets, in your sleep.
