Apple reserved mini-Led for higher end product according to a forum member here.

I don't know about higher-end, but:

  • I think Apple is fine using OLED for consumer products (but not necessarily the low end yet, due to cost/volume), where color accuracy and burn-in don't matter as much
  • for pro products, especially ones commonly used in graphics/photo/video production, such as Macs and high-end iPads, they'd rather use mini-LED. Again, due to cost/volume issues, this hasn't trickled down yet (heck, it hasn't arrived at all yet on the Mac; on the Pro Display XDR, they instead use an even more niche approach)

To the people complaining about burn in, does your OLED iPhone have burn in? i own many OLED products and burn in has not been a problem for me at all. Nor, any issues with flickering screens. Just stop with the hate for a technology cause it’s primarily used by an Apple competitor, namely Samsung. The Galaxy Tab S7 Plus is a great device and so are iPads.

I’m really looking forward to OLED displays from Apple. Excited to see them on iPads (instant purchase for me) and even Macs, laptops especially. I don’t care for the light blooming around white text in Dark Mode on MiniLED displays. Eventually we will have microLED displays and hopefully that will be the best yet. OLED issues are mostly in the past, and Apple will be able to deal with any issues around their UI. LG OLED TV panels are good for well over 10 years currently. That’s going to work well for just about any application.

In theory, you can get pure white from red, green and blue, but in practice that means your red, green and blue all have to be perfect to begin with. And LEDs aren't perfect. It's just far easier to produce white light using phosphors than to try and mix imperfect red, green and blue LEDs. Maybe soon it will be good enough but right now it's not as good as the continuous white spectrum of LCD backlights.
