I had a Galaxy S8+ with a Samsung OLED and now I have an LG V40 with an LG OLED and honestly there is little difference between the two. If LG is supplying to Apple there will even be less of a difference because it will be built to their specifications.

With that said, they'd be best to use the LG displays only on certain model lines and Samsung only on others. That way they don't end up with a ridiculous new "displaygate" where people keep returning phones for no reason.

Who says that they pay less for an LG display than for a Samsung one?

Nobody notices a difference, they just read about it.

Just speculating. This very article mentions the possibility. Using multiple suppliers can "improve Apple's negotiating position." LG could undercut Samsung and Apple will use (LG) instead to save costs. Hopefully this won't happen and instead all suppliers will lower panel prices in order to compete.

I absolutely notice a difference between Samsung and LG OLED phone screens, have used many of both. As recently as the smaller Pixel 3, which was horrible in my case. I'm confident LG is upping its game, but for a phone that costs upwards of $1000, there should be close to zero panel variance among phones.

I'm not sure what you mean, since these aren't out yet
I‘m talking about past displays that were spread over two suppliers. Apart from that, people are already complaining about the quality of the LG displays, so your point applies to their comments even more than it does to mine.

LG displays in the past have been absolute trash. But I won't mind having an LG display so long as it's indistinguishable from a Samsung display. Hence my first comment.

Lol, I figured.... seemed incredulous at best!

Someone paid Samsung display, but nobody knows who.

For all we know
it could be Samsung mobile, their premium galaxy phone sales has collapsed.
Could be Huawei that that reduced smartphone production.
Could be google, pixel 3 sales completely flopped.

Samsung display supplies all those oems.
