I have a couple widgets, 4 that actually connect to web, but I set the weather to only update like every 4 hours. I also have it disable wifi when the phone isn't plugged in and screen is off, that is under the advanced settings in wifi, that might prevent your phone from actually sleeping. The setting is called "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" - only when plugged in.

So wait, your wifi is only active when your phone is charging and on? I keep wifi on regardless, that's what I have it connected to at the house.

no it keeps it active, just not when the phone is sleeping, unless you have it plugged in. if you keep it active while sleeping I don't think the phone can deep sleep.

Hmmmm. I have it on constantly, even overnight. Seems the battery is starting to perform better now though, it's been 4 full charges

It definitely has some weird battery issues. The vast majority of the time I get phenomenal battery life. But sometimes, there is a known bug over on XDA dev where the GPS location kicks in and doesn't shut off, maybe connected to the phone app for some reason. I've had that happen and burn my battery in 3 or 4 hours. Also once or twice I've put my hand in my pocket, the phone was very hot and when I pulled it out I found out the camera app was turned on somehow. I'm also having a lot of proximity sensor issues.

It's these weird stability things which annoyed me about Android. I had them to a lesser extent on the last Android phone I had, a Note 2. I was hoping they worked them out.

Ok, think I found the culprit. Even though I didnt have my standalone GPS on, the G2 still uses the GPS to access your location and it appears it was always running. When I shut it off completely, the GPS symbol is still in the notification bar but its not running. The bad part is I have to go in and switch it on every time I need to pull up businesses around me or want to check in from a social app. The Samsung phones arent like this if I recall and my 5s isnt either, it just knows when to use the GPS. We will see what the battery life is like now but its dropped 6% in 45 minutes since turning it off and I have only done a few texts and a 3-4 minute call which sucks. Brightness is at 80%

At first I thought that was my issue but I have my gps on and have it using network location too. I know at first it was an issue but not any more. Do you have verizon or att?

I've read a few reports about "creaking" when applying pressure to the backplate around certain areas, namely around the camera/button and where the SIM card is located. Can anyone confirm?

Seems the battery life has actually gotten worse, this is with pretty moderate use today. Some web browsing, texts, a few emails, a few photos and maybe 20 minutes of calls. 12hrs 30mins off the charger and down to 20%. I tried everything I can think of short of rooting, including a reset and the battery life is just unacceptable. My 5s battery is half the size and gets better battery life. Combine that with the other complaints I had with the G2 earlier means I'll be returning it tomorrow and going back to my 5s. Im not willing to put up with the negatives just to have a larger screen, not that important to me. Besides, I have my iPad mini if I need a mobile device with a larger screen. Not a bad device, just not as good as the 5s IMO.

Its also about half the size and does half as much.

Not sure if you are simplifying the situation, but to clarify, rooting alone will not help. I am running mine on VZW CleanRom 1.0, which is just de-bloated, which has helped a little.

I've been enjoying my G2, which for my use is 2 full 10-12hr working days on battery. I am very happy with it, but am curious about specific 5s vs G2 battery drain tests. The link has the 5 in some of the graphs, and from my understanding, the 5 battery usage should be quite similar to the 5s.

Grossly over exaggerated. For my experiences, my G2 has not been working as well as my old stock RAZR M over bluetooth. Pandora source on my car input does not launch the Pandora App, and Bluetooth input does not display the artist/track title unless paused. I have yet to try hand free calling, which I sure hope works as my return period is up. Really peeved with that.

The 1st graph isnt much help as its for 3G/2G, I have 4G LTE, and the 3rd is talk time, I dont do much talking on the phone. The 2nd graph is for wifi, which is what I use most the time, and the 5 is right there with the G2. The 5s does indeed have slightly better battery life than the 5, so it should be about on par with the G2 over wifi. LTE is supposedly a battery drainer for Android phones too. So its no wonder the 5s is performing better.

Nah, it's very solid. More solid than the S4 IMO. Of course the plastic gives way slightly if you put a moderate amount of pressure on it, it's plastic. But it's very sturdy and solid.

Anyone who says the ip5 has better battery life than the G2 is nuts, or has a faulty G2. With the stuff I do, if I didn't have my ip5 plugged in it would be completely out of juice by 3 or 4pm, sometimes sooner. I do the same stuff with my G2 and when I go to sleep around 11pm it still has at least 40%. I honestly don't even bother plugging in my G2 most of the time.

The G2 is buggy though. The proximity sensor sucks, that gps bug does suck up battery, although it is a drastic change, as in 3-4 hours takes the entire battery. Supposedly it's from ATT's carrier IQ, which we are hoping will be removed with the next version of CleanROM.

Not according to that Anandtech article posted Rezenclowd. On wifi, the G2 and the iPhone 5 had virtually the same battery life. The 5s has even better battery life than the 5, so it wouldnt be a surprise to see it perform better than the G2 over wifi. Since I am on wifi for all but maybe an hour or two a day, that would explain why my 5s is performing better than my G2. Look at the screenshots I have posted for further proof.

For me the 5S is equal to or a tiny bit less than the 5 in regards to battery life.

I know you said you're familiar with android, but for me, the G2 outlasted any other android phone I've used - and I've used almost every single one on Verizon since the OG Droid. It even beat out the Droid Maxx in my couple weeks with the devices. The fact that it got as good of battery life as my iP5 at the time was amazing to me. It's funny seeing how much people love the S4 and One. Don't get me wrong, I loved the One as well - but if you've always been on android then you get accustomed to bad battery life. People thinking that the One or S4 is awesome because you can get 10-12 hours of moderate use (4-4.5 hrs screen on time) is just funny to me because I can't stand not being able to go through a day without charging my phone or worrying about it dying, unlike iPhones where I regularly get 6.5-7hrs screen on time.

You are looking at it from the iPhone perspective so the G2s battery life seems troubling, but in reality, if you're looking for an android phone, the G2 is the king of battery life right now along with the Maxx and Note 3. If I were to get an Android phone again, it would be the G2, highly recommended. An HTC One with a bigger battery and the S800 + an improved camera would probably make me switch back to android.

Wow that's nuts, do you have a link to the article? I definitely trust Anandtech, but anecdotally my experience has been vastly different, and that is WITH wifi use. I'd say the ip5 battery life is fair to poor, and that's over 3 different iphone 5's I've used. The battery life on the G2 is outstanding, truly bordering on being the best battery life of any phone I've ever owned. The only one I think might beat it out was my Note 2, but it would be close.

Let me say that if having a bigger screen is not that important to you, the ip5s is definitely a better phone, and iOS is better for business IMO than Android, which is still not ready for prime time. I've been sorely tempted to return to my iphone, but that screen is just so small. I'm going to give the Nexus 5 a shot, but if it is wonky like the G2 then I'm going back to Apple, small screen or not.

So far my negatives:
Proximity sensor goes crazy sometimes
touch screen stops working, this is kind of rare
Speaker volume is LOWWWWW, it's pretty terrible
knock on sensor doesn't work half the time
some minor but annoying lag
rear buttons are annoying
rest of complaints are with Android, so not really LG's fault.

Funny cause my knock on works every time. For your speaker volume issue when on a call hit the settings button and look for the noise suppression option. I unchecked that and it got louder.

Cool, thanks for the tip I'll give it a shot. I was able to hack in a louder volume and it helps.

Here is the link to the Anandtech battery test, look at the 2nd graph, wifi.

I agree with your negatives too. I'll add to that the lack of a browser. I hate chrome and dont care for 3rd party browsers, got used to Samsung's which I really liked.

Firefox is a good one. I never understand why some dont want to just install an app if it helps make something better. I use FF and Chrome. Rarely use the stock browser.

So is the LG G2 worth getting or not?

I don't think I would have paid full price for it. I got it for very cheap on Craigslist, so I figured what the heck. Even at the cheap price I got it for I'm considering selling it and getting the N5.

Interesting. I see 3 different graphs. In the 4g/3g browsing one the G2 trounces the ip5 by almost 2:1. The wifi browsing the g2 slightly edges out the ip5. The cellular talk time is TRIPLE for the G2 over the ip5, holy crap, that's 23.5 freakin hours of talk time, jeez.

With those stats you would be better off just turning off your wifi on the G2 and going over LTE and getting double the battery, that is if you have that option, otherwise I don't see your point apples to apples because the battery life is virtually the same in wifi browsing, at that point you might as well choose the larger screen. Also having TRIPLE the talk time would be a pretty killer plus in my book, heck I'd much rather talk on my phone than browse, if I was wifi browsing on my cell phone for 8 hours a day I'd just buy a tablet or a laptop.

There are 4 graphs and there is no 4G graph. Thats 3G/2G which is meaningless to me because I am either on wifi or LTE all the time. I am betting they cherry picked that 3G/2G to make the G2 look better on purpose. I mean, who still uses 2G or even 3G in 2013? Maybe some countries overseas? Doesnt effect me, I have been on 3G in years. I am pretty sure a 4G/LTE test would reveal the 5s is MUCH closer to the G2 since LTE is so such a battery drain on every Android phone.
