Is it a bad idea to purchase the LG UltraFine 5K Display? I know it came out in 2016, so there must be new technology? I am using an older 27 inch Apple thunderbolt monitor from 2011-2012. I will be replacing my 2015 MacBook Pro soon. I have a busy Etsy store so I need to edit pictures and create listings. I am also torn between a 32 inch or a 27 inch. I am afraid with a 32 inch would be too big. Can someone please recommend a couple monitors under $1500. Please help!!! The more I read reviews the more confused I get.

If you can, I would hold out another month or so. There were some rumors about a new Apple display. There will likely be new MacBook Pros announced in the next few weeks, so if there is to be a new display one would think that would be the time to announce it.

That said, there still really is not any good substitute for the LG 5K if you want 5K with built in video and speakers. I like mine a lot.

I was also afraid of 32 inches. I was also afraid that after 5K iMac there would be a lot of pixels. But no! 4K 32 is great!:)

I can hold out. My monitor is still working. I also plan on purchasing the new MacBook Pro.

The reliability of the LG 5K monitors has been iffy. I had many issues, interference, sudden shut offs, lines. There are hundreds of negative comments. There are various incremental releases on the series. The main problem is the horrible LG brand and their support, particularly if the 1 year warranty has expired. It is almost impossible to get these repaired. I would advise you to wait. I replaced two LG's 5K with one Apple XDR (I know it is far more expensive, but far more reliable).

LG 32un880-b.
excuse me, does your monitor allow HiDPI? I have a Dell 4K, 24 in, and I use 1080p with HiDPI, but 1440p looks blurry and 4K is too small. In amy resolution photos and 4K video look way better than 1080p. Is like the UI is 1080p but all other content remains 4K

Any “4K” or higher-resolution monitor makes macOS enable the HiDPI modes. You’ll have the blurriness if you scale — the only way to get 2560×1440 HiDPI without blurriness is a 5K monitor. And the lower your monitor’s PPI, the more apparent the blurriness will be. So going from e.g. 24” (185 ppi) to 32” (136 ppi) should not be done without taking this into consideration.
