LG UltraFine 5K - Owners Thread

I actually found that Apple's TB4 & TB5 cables work the best and make everything smooth. You can once in a while find them cheap at Best Buy (Open Box) or Microcenter. USB-4 cables seems to work also as I used to use the Satechi one and it worked fine, technically they are the same spec or better than TB3. But Apple's seem to work the best and I never even feel my back warm at all, when I used USB4, the back would feel warm around the ports.

Yep. I like those same cables. Even more pliable than the ones the display came with, and meets the spec and then some.

Are you using the original cable by chance? Make sure it is the same spec as the original cable and not a lesser TB3 cable. I ran into this a while back and a correct cable resolved it.

Yes, I'm using the original cable. No problems for many years, until installing the Golden Gate dev beta.

It's daisy chained with an ASUS 6k 32" using the cable that came with that. No changes there either.

So your problem is with daisy chaining 2016-2018 TB3 technology (LG 5K Ultrafine) to 2020 TB4 (Asus), and driving it with 2026 beta software?
Sometime backwards compatibility has a legacy cut-off date, especially with betas...

The first stage with troubleshooting would surely be to cut the Asus tech out of the chain - probably Asus would never have tested their products with 2016 era hardware and the software workarounds needed to get the LG working at 5K, with OS X Sierra...

See if connecting the LG 5K direct to your Mac solves the incompatibility?
Or if it's an incompatibility between GG and the 1980's era Intel 8051 microcode that the LG 5K video scaler chip runs... 😉
