I’m in the UK and bought direct from Apple.
Well...... Did you use a credit card that doubles the warranty?

I have two that I bought refurbished a couple years ago. So far they seem as good today as they were on day one.

Hello. I have an LG 22MD4KA-B monitor and I'm trying to update the firmware. The "LG Screen Manager" application doesn't display the monitor software version. Here's a screenshot: https://prnt.sc/vwz4b9 and Settings: https://prnt.sc/vwz4y6

I'm using the latest version of the LG Screen Manager app from App Store (v. 2.79). The LG Screen Manager recognizes the monitor as "LG UltaFine" but I can't identify or update the software/firmware.

Troubleshooting: I've restarted computer (MacBook Pro 13" 2018), tried different USB C ports on computer and monitor, uninstalled/reinstalled LG Screen Manager app. Tried the same on MacBook Air 2018, tried on Catalina and Big Sur...

Can anyone help me find the firmware file that I can upload to the LG Screen Manager app, or tell me how to contact LG to get the firmware.

Thanks, Daniel

Can people reassure me this 5K isn’t going to break my heart in the next few years? I like what it offers but for the price and the 1 year warranty it’s making me nervous.
I have two from March 2017 still working perfectly well, 3y 9m later.
Of course there are no guarantees with everything in life, so hopefully your one works the same.🤞

no image retention issues ?

The LG Ultrafine 5K works fine on its native 5120x2880 resolution on my M1 Mac mini, apart from one issue.

Occasionally after the Mac has gone to sleep and the display has turned off, the resolution is locked to 4096x2160 after wake up.
The display cannot be set back to the native 5120x2880 resolution in the display settings and the only way to restore the native resolution is to swap the Thunderbolt port — sometimes multiple times — or restart the Mac.

Anybody else running into this issue? It's somewhat annoying but not critical. And yeah, I've sent feedback to Apple — I hope it will get fixed eventually.

Notes:
- This issue has occurred only on the Mac mini with M1. It cannot be reproduced on late 2016 MacBook Pro 13” running on the same beta version of macOS Big Sur.
- The issue occurs regardless if there is a second monitor connected to the Mac or not.
- The issue occurs only after sleep and wake, not on initial boot. It also does not occur every time after sleep.

It seems that this sleep / resolution bug has either been fixed in the latest beta or something critical changed in my config. The bug has not occurred once in the past few days for me.

Every once in a while I'll get a weird distortion line right in the middle of the display. I understand that the display uses two streams and puts them together for the final picture. A simple unplug and replug of the thunderbolt cable fixes it. It's not just my display. I had the same thing happen on others as well.

Anyone managed to reliably get this working with the new M1 Apple Silicon macbooks? I've got an M1 MacBook Air and the LG Ultrafine 5K 27MD5KA (1st Gen) running 11.0.1 but only displaying as 4k. Multiple reboots and port switches but can't get it to recognise 5k. Also the LG Screen Manager doesn't recognise the monitor.

I don't think the M1 has a SMC to reset...
I just bought a used 5K yesterday. Tried it out with my M1 MBA, worked perfectly immediately. How do I check which gen it is?

The Big Sur 11.1 beta includes a fix for the LG UltraFine 5K.

Sorry if it is being discussed already, but LG Screen Manager says the display is not supported. I have M1 Mac mini and 27MD5KA. Anyone had the same issue?

Part number will be on the back but you need to remove the stand to see it. Otherwise you can get the product number from SwitchResX and other utilities. The new LG UltraFine 5K will show 5B74 with the old LG UltraFine 5K showing 5B11.

Thanks! Guess I'll check with switchresx.

I'm on 11.0.1 and it worked perfectly right off the bat with my m1 MBA. Curious that we have different experiences.

I remember seeing a notification once saying that but it seems to work now except for showing details about the resolution timings. Also out of the box I could only go to 4096x2304 right when I unpacked it. Don't know if it was a glitch or because I let updates install but 5120x2880 seems fine for a while now (I like it scaled to 2560x1440 HiDPI).

Display works fine, but I'd like to update firmware on it, however, the section is grayed out and the app says the display is not supported...

Maybe the display firmware update doesn't work on M1 Macs because the Thunderbolt hardware is different? (ioreg doesn't look the same as on an Intel Mac)?
The LG Screen Manager app is 8 months old which predates M1 Macs.

I just purchased one to go with my M1 MBP but I am wondering if I should return it for the 32” 4K Ultrafine LG which is currently the same price. Thinner bezels and no camera which is fine for me. What exactly are the pros of the 27”? I’m wondering if the 32” may be TOO big.

5K at 27" has the correct density for macOS Retina. 4K at 32" is miles off. See this article

If you care about sharpness (I'm a fanatic) there's nothing like the 5k. Well, except for the 6k. And the 4k 22".

This all day. There's nothing like the sharpness you get on the 5K. If you're used to using Apple displays everywhere else in your life (MacBooks, iPhones, iPads), it's always a disappointment to connect to a display that look anything less than what you get with the Apple ones.

The other factors make the UltraFines worth it are the integration of brightness control + color accuracy.

Your keyboard's built-in brightness controls can conveniently be used to adjust the UltraFine's brightness. It's a nice luxury to be able to dim the display at night and then brighten it again in the morning. On a traditional monitor, you have to use a third-party monitor's (always terrible) built-in controls. For this reason, most people never even adjust their brightness.

Second, color accuracy. If you have an Apple laptop or iMac, you're used to the default color profile of that display, but when you get a third-party monitor, the colors are almost always going to be skewed off from that baseline you're used to. The LG UltraFine is pretty much identically calibrated. It's one of those things you don't really appreciate until you start using it.

Size isn't everything. Resolution in this case is the defining thing: 218ppi, which matches Apple's other Retina displays.

Of course the bigger 6K XDR would be even better – same resolution but even bigger screen; hence the extra 1K res was needed (5K --> 6K). But most people cannot afford such a thing, so this is the next best thing we have.
