This is the only reason I would have considered a Thunderbolt 5 Pro Mac mini. Too late though as I got the Thunderbolt 4 M4 Mac mini. I'm using it with two USB 4 / Thunderbolt 4 hubs with two USB 4 / Thunderbolt external SSDs.

Hopefully the LG is decently priced. I'm considering a monitor upgrade from my 28.2 Huawei 3840x2560 3:2 monitor, and I was not too impressed with the aesthetics of the Asus 6K monitor.

Haha  it probably means a new version of the Pro XDR is being prepared for announcement soon, and Apple have released some of the IP involved in the old one to LG so they can come up with their own version, rather like the 5K Ultrafine was based on Apple's design (bespoke Parade T-con chip etc) of the 27" 5K iMac... 😃

That's fine. Everyone was expecting a new set of displays this year from Apple. However, the main issue with Apple's displays is cost.

The rest of us mere mortals have been looking to get our hands on lower cost alternatives, even if they aren't quite as good as Apple's. Hopefully the LG will be a decent option at that desired lower price point.

This is likely set to compete with Dells 6k display, and not the XDR.
Well, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same panel as the XDR, but with different backlighting.

Certainly, the form factor looks more like a competitor to the XDR, even if it doesn't turn out to be in the same tier. Plus I suspect it won't have the weird macOS quirks that the Dell has.

I am assuming the same. That also tells us that it is likely to be 60 hz unfortunately. Thunderbolt 5 could have driven it at 6k resolution, at 120hz.

It is amazing how weird displays work, or doesn't, with modern Macs. Apple really did a bad job there.

I literally just ordered the XDR :). Wondering if I should cancel that now. Did they announce when it would get released, or when we might get more info on it?
I don’t have any more info for the LG 6K display but Dell has the UltraSharp 32” 6K monitor U3224KB for $2,479.99 (USD). So I would get the Dell if you only care about 6K resolution, around 220 pixels per inch, and a large screen size.

Also, I don't like the idea of a monitor that can't be used for anything else but connection to a mac. No camcorder, playstation, blue ray, or cable box, nothing. Why make things akward?

I agree since they mentioned IPS Black and not mini-LED, no mention of the refresh rate either which means it's likely a 60 hz panel. Still though, it already looks miles better than the Dell and I'm curious to see what the price will be. I do want to move up to a 32" 6K although I might just stick with the Studio Display for now.

Anyone that thinks this is going to be 'reasonably priced' (ie cheap) just isn't paying attention to historical LG pricing on Mac monitors. Sure the LG 5k was a little less than the ASD, but not that much so as to have people ignore the obvious greater physical limitations of the LG 5k. This may be an interesting alternative. But it's not the answer for people that want 6k cheap.

Resolution is a big thing, but not the only thing. Colour Accuracy (front-end design and development, some photography) is fairly important, and haven't seen anything in the middle really. The Dell just also looks horrific - with that eyesore webcam and speaker. I would get frustrated looking at that everyday.

Suggested retail pricing won't be low, but LG displays often go on sale, and the street pricing decreases over time as well.

The LG 5K was less than US$900 last year. I'd be perfectly happy to wait until Black Friday 2026 to get a deal on the LG 6K. Furthermore, I don't expect the LG 6K to have a FALD type backlight. I suspect it will have a standard single-zone backlight.

I agree with everything that you said especially with the design of the Dell 6K display. It looks horrible!

Since this is CES product info, what are the physical dimensions? Someone must have measured it.
You can get a rough idea. It's 218 ppi and has a thin bezel.

LG also manufactures 6016 x 3384 and 6144 x 3456 218 ppi panels for Apple and Dell respectively, so it's likely to be one of these two panels.

So the screen is probably about 27.6-28.2 inches by 15.5-15.9 inches. Add perhaps about 1/8" of bezel around the perimeter.

I'm guessing it's 6016x3384 since that's what both Apple and Asus use, so total dimensions of the screen with bezel would be roughly about 28"x16". Note that the Apple Pro Display XDR is 28.3"x16.2".

Thanks for that. So about the same size as my 4K 32" Viewsonic displays, but with more pixels.

Frankly the Apple Vision Pro works so well for being an alpha or at best beta product that I am disinclined to further invest in displays at this point. My guess is that visionOS3 will make the AVP fully viable as a primary workflow device; and second generation hardware may also exist by then as well, even though I personally have no major complaints about v1 AVP hardware.
