thats an easy answer. 27UD88 will not throttle down to USB 2.0 speed because the MBP has enough bandwidth. The throttling was a limitation on the 12in macbook being able to run 4k at 60hz.
Not what I heard though. On another forum I read that as it is not Thunderbolt3, it doesn't have enough bandwith for USB3 and if you want USB3 you should connect the screen using something else than USB-C (and use the usb-c for the "usb hub" part). So who is right? :)

Apple really need to update their high resolution display support pages: "Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with your Mac". [ https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206587 ]. There's still no reference to the MBP/TB3(2016) or the LG UltraFine 4k/5k monitors etc. And still no mention of SST/5k (or TB3) etc. Unless that's covered somewhere else?

the ports on the monitor are USB 3.0 speed, its in the specs. Before os sierra came out, the macbook could only drive it at 30hz and USB speed was 3.0.

From what I heard, USB speed will be 3.0 IF it is used at 4K/30Hz but 2.0 if 4K/60Hz.
[doublepost=1478864966][/doublepost]Apparently LG customer service has no idea what they are talking about anywa:

Hello Romf,

Thank you for getting back to LG Email Service again. Apparently, USB-C is different from USB3.0. USB 3.0 is for data transfer or mass storage while USB-C is for Display, Audio and data transfer. Also, USB-C and thunderbolt 3.0 are different name but uses the same technology. When it comes to data transfer, the USB type C is faster compare to USB 3.0.

Please contact us again via Email, Live Chat or by calling 800-243-0000 if you need further assistance. LG Electronics is fully committed to customer service and satisfaction.

Sincerely,

So I put one of these on order, but later figured I'd cancel with all these apparent limitations--no thunderbolt, no displayport, etc. Probably can't daisy chain with it. May not work in Windows.

Well, the damn thing just shipped. (The previous estimate had been December, and it went straight to Shipped--no "preparing for shipment.) In all likelihood I'll be returning it, but I'll post my impressions early next week with my hackintosh/windows/new MBP (hopefully).
