I simply cannot understand why LG did not cooperate with Apple on the design of this monitor, which was clearly meant for Macs. Jony Ive could have designed something better on his lunch break.

Ive would just have copied his most recent one - and made it a little thinner :D

i actually like them trimming their product profile. I mean they have too much already in their plate. cutting off display, router will definitely slim them a bit. I would love them to focus more on new products like watch and just released AirPods. And please slim down the iPad versions, 7.9, 9.7, 9.7pro, 12.9pro, imo they are too much. 9.7 and 12.9 are enough remove pro, its confusing.

What I would love to know is:
  • Will future iMacs be able to use this at full resolution with one cable
  • Will future iMacs be able to be used as second displays (target display mode)

I'm a little late to the game (haven't been keeping up on the latest iMacs), but I'd also like to know if this would work with Thunderbolt-1 Late 2012 27" iMacs at their default 2560x1440 resolution. If I were to buy an external monitor now, I'd like it to work today with my 2012 and yet be future proofed if I moved to a newer iMac.

I must be using my display wrong because I don't even notice how the frame and stand look. All that matters is image quality and stand adjustability. A USB hub and SD card reader are nice but not mandatory unless using a gimped Apple laptop.

Why is that a problem exactly? I come here because I like the site. I come here for no cost, not paid a cent since joining. The odd ad isn't a problem. In fact I wouldn’t even bat an eyelid if they doubled the number of ads.

Agreed, though I don't think of articles like this as ads, more like a way to be informed about what new tech is available for Macs. Flashing ads nagging me to buy crap? I hate those and use appropriate countermeasures.

?????? Dood.... you just proved my point !!! When i say "as it used to be" you aren't going back far enough. They've made more mistakes THIS YEAR than on your 10 year long list.

Most of what you list are problems or manufacturing issues. Not MISTAKES. Not mis-steps. Not being completely clueless and user hostile. YOU said "perfect" not me. Not it wasn't perfect. But it was 1000X better than is now.
At least their phones didn't explode

I have no issues with the design. But I have major issues with how Apple and LG treat Swiss customers. They remove the product just when the international sale starts and now no one seems to care or know anything. Absolutely lousy performance and customer service from both companies!

I have to admit, they are a nice combo . Still prefer my Thunderbolt Display

Can't say I'm digging the un-evenness of the bezel being larger on the top side than the bottom. Symmetry is wonderful.

What do you think about the iMac then? Sometimes compromises are necessary. Apparently, this display needs large bezels and a bulky back cover because it has a much higher quality screen than usual 4K displays, an integrated power supply, speakers and a webcam. If you are okay with lower resolution that is less than ideal for macOS, poor color production, lack of a webcam, dealing with cables and an external power brick, you have many options out there that look perfectly symmetrical.

This reads like a paid advertisement more so than an actual review.

I think I found why:

I received mine yesterday. It is great, but I've found that if you plug/unplug any USB 3 devices from the Macbook Pro 2016 the screen goes blank. Anybody else have this issue?

5K resolution on a screen this small is a total waste of technology.
Why would you say that? When running in Retina mode, the review says that the sharpness due to the pixel doubling is unmistakable when compared to the Apple Thunderbolt display sitting next to it.

Just to echo the point that many of you have made already, the asymmetry of the bezel makes me sick.

At least it's adjustable, everyone here with an iMac or Thunderbolt Display has a stack of books under them.
I had to go the other way with my iMac. I had to buy a VESA adapter and mount so that I could lower the iMac closer to my desk, in order to be more ergonomic. I wish Apple would make their products more adjustable without having to spend a lot for accessories.

So do these actually work reliably with the 12 inch MB and new MBP?? USB-C external displays were/are (depending on who you ask on the Apple support forums) quite a problem area.
