there are many theories but i think the ending is whatever you interpret it to be, i don't think there is a definitive end, someone said that sam did actually physically wake up and take the dive of the building and the radio said "we're loosing him, he's arrested" and when we saw him making notes through a Dictaphone, those notes are sent to the female psychologist who goes back to 1981 and to gene hunt, so gene hunt is in the mind and that was what has created Ashes to ashes, that was one theory i heard, quite interesting

I hated the S5 Finale, with the Thames Barrier?
The previous season's final with Adam's wife was far better.

Really didn't end well, did it, I found it very rushed towards the end. Probably would have been better if they *hadn't* gotten out of the barrier before it flooded. Still an excellent show though, roll on S6!

I think you're right, the ending can be interpreted how you like. If we knew that there was no spin-off, then I'd sit most comfortably with thinking that Sam has died at the end, but at least he died happy in his coma, if that's possible - but you know what I mean.

Yes, the character who goes back in time in Ashes to Ashes is the female doctor that Sams tape recording were sent too in the real world. She also only goes back after having an accident and going into a coma - so, you could take that either way. Either she's just in a coma and is inventing it all based on her interpretation of Sams recordings, *or* she is actually travelling back in time *because* she's gone into a coma. Don't think it's going to work as well, but should still be fun if the character of Gene is kept in the same vein...

Hmm, didn't see the last episode but from the talk about the spinoff it looks like they've borrowed a lot of ideas from Stephen Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant - bloke gets knocked out, wakes in another world, dream or not you don't know, eventually meets another person from "real" world in there so mystery deepens etc. etc.
