i hear ya, but i cant see it not working, "waterproof" isnt some new idea that was just thought of by lifeproof so why wouldnt it do what its designed to do?

Well, after viewing one of the vids about this case, the case itself is a two piece that, presumably, snaps together. Guessing there are some rubber gaskets or something in between the two halves that form a waterproof barrier. And I think there is a piece (for the headphone jack area) that screws in. I'm just curious as to how all that holds up as if there is even the slightest gap anywhere there, then the waterproof factor is out the door. There may be some potential for some tolerances to not be correct on the initial production run (seeing as how quite a number of people are interested in the case) that may cause some issues with the whole waterproof case thing.

I guess we'll all see once this thing gets released however I'm a smidge hesitant to test out the waterproof ability of this case with a $300 phone you know? Guess I'm just trying to NOT hype myself up for this case in the event that it is some sort of catastrophic fail case. If they were to back up their waterproof claims with some sort of guarantee then that would put me at some ease about the case.

yeah i guess it would be hard for them to guarantee the user put it on properly, or put the headphone jack in, dont get me wrong i would prolly be to nervous to ever test it but damn this case looks sweet in those videos

Same here. Hoping this case will be THEE case for me so that I can finally stop buying cases at random hoping one of them will be better than the last one I bought :p

I do agree with you 100%. I would also like to wait to see how some reviews turn out. My phone is worth way more then $300 literally, and for the amount of information I have on it, definitely not willing to lose it over a case. But if this company were that positive that their case is waterproof, they would have some sort of warranty policy incase someone's phone got wet due to it having a bad seal on there products. Also their are manufacture defects, and what if I got a case that had one such as a bad seal.. As awesome as this case looks, I'm not too 100% yet. Gonna need some type of backbone for me to make a purchase.

you could test the case by putting a piece of paper inside an dunk in in water see if the paper stays dry

True but I think I'll need some type of positive information from the company so I feel safe while using this case in case my phone gets wet.

Wow, nice breakdown, thanks. Im thinking this wont be able to be used with the VZ iPhone tho, judging by that mute area pic.

on youtube, the representative said it will be compatible with both versions of the phone

i hear ya, just not sure how they can guarantee it will work if they are not the ones puting it on the phone

Yeah, this is really my only concern. If they are promoting this as a waterproof case then there would/should be some claim/guarantee of this case actually being waterproof. Simply demoing it working underwater is attractive and all but still need a little something more. Sure there might be some user error when installing the case but it's a pretty steep gamble to simply go off a manufacturer's word when such an item like an iPhone 4 is at risk. I'll definitely get the case and I'll most likely test it out first (we'll call it the paper test for now :D) and see how it holds up. If it does then all should be good with this thing.

If it's anything like those hard plastic, underwater camera cases, you have to be extremely careful not to have anything on the seal that joins the two halves. The slightest speck of grit will allow water to enter. But then again, those are meant to go very deep.

OTOH, I have two Panasonic underwater cameras (TS1 and TS2), that seal out water pretty good, down to 30 feet. Both the battery/memory card and USB doors are hinged and have small rubber seals. I'm still anal as hell, making sure there is no sand or ANYTHING on those rubber door seals, before closing the doors firmly. I'd like to see a close up of the two halves of the case and then a video showing how you take the case apart again. Take care!

I just bought this one from case2case.net, wonderful itsn't it?

promotion of a site that doesnt even work? or is it just me that it doesnt work.

Videos of this case have been floating around YouTube for almost a year now (theres one of a guy surfing with it).

I'm skeptical if this case will every actually exist.

That videos might have been from the 3GS version of the case, which I believe has been around for quite some time. I didn't see any surfing video for the iPhone 4 version.

Well, they're in "production" phase now according the latest email I got from them. While this does seem like a lot of hype for a case, I think these guys are pretty sincere about making the case and, actually, selling it. I, for one, hope they do so I'm eagerly awaiting the news when they actually start shipping these things out.

Does anyone here have the 3GS case? Isn't it weird that you can't find it ANYWHERE? No 3rd party retailers, no ebay - not even a review of it for the 3GS.

I believe the LifeProof case for iPhone 4 will be their first issue case. They are still developing the 3GS version and the iPad case that is why those have TBA for prices.

To be sure, you should contact LifeProof directly to get the real skinny on them.

Where is it???

I'm on the pre-order list, too. It's now officially May and I haven't heard a word. Anyone know anything yet?

There was a molding tool problem that caused a delay in production so they needed to replace it. I was informed that the setback would last a few weeks but once the new machinery was in place production would begin again.

Really interested in this case. Can't wait for someone to get their hands on one. $70 seems kind of steep though.

They are supposed to go on sale the last week of this month. I'm excited, and have been on the pre-order list for a couple months. I spend a lot of time on the water.

Despite the video demonstrations, I highly doubt this is waterproof to 2 meters deep, even waterproof cameras have a high failure rate and after taking a look of some videos the connector tap opens quite easily, and I wonder how good will the screen protector mesh for the earpiece hold underwater.

2 meters is nothing for waterproofing. There is very minimal pressure at that depth. My waterproof camera housing is rated to 130 feet, and with proper o-ring care it hasn't failed me in over 2 years.

I'm not saying I intend to take my phone freediving, as I already have a camera as stated above, but I spend a lot of time on our boat and around the ocean so it's definitely a good peace of mind.

I will be curious to see how the venting works for audio as it supposedly IMPROVES audio quality essentially turning the entire case into a passive amplifier.

To me this case looks pretty legit. I would like to see some kind of warranty though because theres gonna be defects. It's pretty much unavoidable. And the 70 bucks for a completely waterproof and dirt proof case, just think the otter box is what 55 bucks and its not close to waterproof and definitely not dirt proof so i dont think the price is that bad.

Not to mention the Otterbox is ugly and reduces display quality with the crappy matte screen protector.

The LifeProof will include instructions on how to test the integrity of the case before placing your phone in it. Last I heard they won't be offering a warranty for the phone itself, and I don't blame them. I can't imagine how many idiots will take it SCUBA diving to 60ft and then complain that LifeProof ruined their phone. There is no proof to show that the case was used within its limits for them to offer a replacement due to defect.
