Anyone try returning their case? Company seems pretty shady when it comes to returning an item. I've sent them 4 emails in the past two weeks and I haven't gotten a single response from any of them.

I had an issue with mine, they emailed me back within a day or 2 and are sending me a new front half because mine came scratched. I sent a pic of the defect. Their support is usually pretty good. They're just mainly trying to deal with getting original orders sent out I assume.

While I agree the sound coming out of the back doesn't sound great but I love the freedom. Never thought I'd bring my phone into the shower and listen to Pandora haha Not to mention I'm around the water a lot.

Those steps you mention are far from tedious. Snap the case together, put it in water to make sure it works. Take it out ,dry it, insert phone, snap shut. Done.

They water test all cases before shipping. I don't know why people are still performing that test.

By the way, how long are you in the shower that you need to bring your phone in there and turn on Pandora? Walk away from your phone for 5 minutes. It will feel very liberating.

5 minutes. It's entertainment brushing my teeth, and it's nice listening to music while showering. I've gone 23 years without music in the shower so trust me, I'm aware of its feeling. I can do just fine without it. I guess I'm just doing it because I can, so why the hell not.

Wow. This case is such a disappointment. I was hoping to be proven wrong this entire time, but holy **** was I right.

Positives:

+It's waterproof.

Negatives:

-Gone is the wonderful sensitivity of the bare-glass screen. You need to push the plastic cover to make contact with the screen.

-The plastic screen protector is essentially the cheap same material as a plastic blister pack that you'd get when you purchase a stapler.

-The volume buttons are jokingly difficult to press. The power button is slightly easier to press.

-When I'm using speakerphone, the recipient hears an awful echo/tunnel effect of their own voice. I've tried the solution they've recommended of... get this..... putting your mouth over the microphone grill area and blowing. I'm not joking.

-If you touch the case phone during speakerphone, the recipient hears a crazy amplified version of the contact you make with the case.

-Watermark/oil effect. If you do manage to press the plastic screen cover close enough to the screen to allow decent sensitivity, you get an awful watermark/oil effect. Their solution (and their fangirls on facebook) is to clean the phone and screen protector until you drop dead. Mine was pristine clean (wore gloves and used eyeglass cleaner on the phone).

-I didn't think the audio could sound much worse considering the one little speaker on the iphone. I sure was wrong. All of the sound is directed towards the rear of the case and just sounds odd/muffled.

-It's $70.

One last comment on the lifeproof case before I'm officially done with it. Their waterproof test is bunk. You're supposed to seal the case, keep it under water for an hour, then check for leaks. This ensures it's waterproof.

However, once you open it up, dry the case, and insert your iphone, you no longer are certain if you sealed it properly. It's a flawed experiment and gives a false sense of security.

I had the otterbox defender (without its awful screen protector) before the lifeproof... but now - screw it. I'm back to the apple bumper. It's so worth the risk of some damage for how nice the phone feels and functions. At this point it's just worth saving the $ you'd spend on cases and use it in the repair in case something breaks. Just be careful with the phone. I've said my peace.

I think you got a little carried away with the negativity. No, I am not a fanboy.

First of all, you lose VERY VERY little sensitivity, if any. The screen protector settles down nearly completely flush with the screen in less than a week. All you have to do is place your palm on the screen and close the charge port door, releasing any trapped air. After doing this a couple of times it flattens itself out. I have not had an issue since a day or 2 after I got my case.

The screen protector is a screen protector. What did you expect? What other cases have you seen that have an integrated screen protector that's of better quality? Certainly not the Otterbox.

Yes, the volume buttons are annoyingly hard to press. This bothers me.

I just called my girlfriend on speakerphone and yes, she said she hears an annoying echo, but not using speakerphone calls are very clear. As for touching the case, it's noticeable she said but nothing really annoying.

I cleaned my phone using a dry cloth only, no gloves or anything, and the inside of the case as well. I have 1, maybe 2 very tiny water/oil marks. Not enough to bother me.

I'm not a fan of the sound output either. It's not better like they said it would be but honestly I would rather have the standard speaker.

Now for your water test issue. How else do you expect to test a waterproof case of any sort? There's just no way to do it without, at some point, having to break the seal to put your device in. The water test is a test of the integrity of the case. If it worked during the initial test, then it will work once you put your phone in, assuming you aren't handicapped and can push 2 halves together and visually look that there are no gaps.

I have a $200 waterproof case that houses a $200 digital camera. I take this diving with me to depths up to 125ft. How else can I test it to ensure it works properly? Sure I can take it down without the camera, but at some point I am going to have to open it back up to put the camera in. It's something you're going to have to have faith in. I'm all ears if you have a better idea on how to test the functionality of a waterproof case.

Once again, I am not a fanboy, and I obviously have similar complaints about the case as well, but some of your claims don't make sense, or you just jumped to a conclusion.

I for one am happy that I can take my phone out on our boat, get fish guts all over my hands, grab my phone to take a picture, and then rinse it off after.

The fact is, it's nothing like the original bare screen. You lose much more sensitivity than you feel to admit. Go take your tupperwared phone into an iphone store and let somebody objectively use it side by side with one of the phones on display. The difference will be clear, unlike the screen protector on the lifeproof.

Other screen protectors are crap, so I should have expected crap? This is the crap of the crap.

Your girlfriend is being nice. You take her phone and talk to her as she holds your lifeproof. You'll hear how speakerphone feature is essentially no longer an option with that case on.

Exactly - the water test is nonsense. They shouldn't even suggest that one be done. It doesn't prove anything.

Enjoy taking pictures of gutted fish, but the phone is otherwise ridiculous to use.

If you want to protect your screen, you're going to have to sacrifice a little sensitivity/responsiveness. That goes with any case really.

I just took my brother's phone and had him talk into the Lifeproof while using speakerphone. Speakerphone does suck, but otherwise it sounds fine.

The water test is not nonsense, it tests the integrity and functionality of the case. It may not be necessary being that they test it from the factory but still, it's an extra piece of mind. There are a few vents and 2 seals on this phone, it is possible that these may be defective from the factory. The water test will reveal this before you place your device in it. If it passes the test, then you should feel confident knowing that it will work, as long as you press the halves together properly. As I said, same goes for any other waterproof housing. My digital camera one is one piece that breaks open with a latch so it lines up the same essentially every time, but you get the idea.

As much as some of the aspects of this phone annoy me, I loved having it on the boat today. Took some good pics, ended up getting caught in the rain, and boats are rough in general. I can throw it in the glovebox without a worry, as opposed to wrapping it in something to avoid damage.

To me, the pros outweigh the cons. Speakerphone is an issue though.

Is the only issue the speakerphone? Is the screen protector/cover glossy? How would you compare it to the OB Defenders built-in screen protector? I've been using a defenders case since it was released for the iPhone 4. I don't have any scratches on it. However the lifeproof screen looks like it will scratch easily from some photos I've seen lately.

Completely agree. Using my phone naked and the pros far outweigh the cons. It is much more enjoyable to use than when in a case. As you say, if it breaks - the repair is often much less costly than some of the cases.

The inside of my Lifeproof case scratched when I used their included microfiber. After 2 days of being in my pocket the front has a permanent scratch on it. As an odd note it won't clean off fingerprints with a wipe of the shirt or pant leg.

While the screen protector on the Lifeproof is clear, the issue is the massive gap between the SP and the actual screen. I use Street Fighter 4 as my test for if a SP doesn't interfere with day to day life. The Lifeproof one fails miserably. I had it on my phone for 2 days straight and the air between the screen and the SP never went away.

As iamkiller states, the case is complete garbage except for the fact that it is waterproof. It is a waste of $70. The first impression out of the box will be that of it being cheap. It looks and feels cheap all around and will definitely not hold up over time.

The audio is pure garbage with muffled sound and be sure not to keep the phone face up on a table or you may not hear it ring. Speaker phone and and overall communications was sub par. Functional but not good at all.

I did like the fold out charging dock cover as it was on an actually hinge and not a flap like the Survivor or Otterbox. I also like the screw in headphone jack cover but without an anchor to hold it as you unscrew it it seems like a cheap and quick solution. Yes I am aware of the included piece that clips on to your headphones but it seems like a band aid for terrible design. There was no issue with the camera either which was a surprise.

Despite the minor things I did like, the rest of the case is essentially a glorified tupperware container that is cheaply made. I took my case off 3 times, twice to clear dust specs upon initial installation and a third time when I removed it tonight after 2 days of frustration with lack of functionality. It already has a permanent bend to the back and now won't close all the way flat when I tried to reinstall it without my phone in it (so I could put it back in the cheap box it came in). I followed the instructions of not to peel it back to the letter.

Finally, all of the buttons and the mute switch are terrible. Mine wouldn't even engage every time I slipped the mute switch (1 out of 6 times roughly) and the buttons are terribly difficult to press with zero feel and somewhat sharp edges on the protrusions.

Overall a waste of money. You are better off using a ziplock bag if you need water protection or use an Otterbox, Griffin Survivor, or even the Ballistic HC for other protection. I'd even recommend the terrible Trident Kraken case over this thing.

Look a page back or so at my long response in reply to iamkiller. You will see most of my feelings on the case.

Speakerphone is a big issue as stated previously. Screen protector is glossy but does look prone to scratches. Mine came scratched and they are sending me a replacement. The Otterbox Defender screen protector is downright ugly, no matter what anyone says. It completely ruins the beautiful vibrant Retina display. That is the Otterbox's biggest downfall in my opinion. As for the issue with the LP screen protector lying flat, I have had mine about a week now and it is nearly completely flush with the screen. Most people don't understand the concept of laying your palm on the screen when you close the charge port door to push out any excess air. I have not had any issues with the LifeProof screen protector bothering me. The day I got it I saw the same thing that everyone is talking about, and it really bothered me but that simple fix has solved the problem. No complaints there. It is somewhat hard to keep clean but it allows the retina screen to show its true colors with its clear glossy finish.

Here's a quick review I wrote up the day I got the case.
http://mustangworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=669830

After tossing it back and forth multiple times, I think the cons outweigh the pros and I will likely just sell mine on eBay. I have a waterproof camera rated to 130ft for scuba diving so I have no intent on submerging the phone. Was just nice to have that freedom while spending a lot of time boating.

Music sounds muffled and distorted at max volume. The volume buttons on the side are very hard to depress and you need a $20 adapter to fit anything other than the Apple sync cable.

Seriously, after all those points? I'm likely just returning it if they respond to my email. Or, PM an offer for this silly thing.

FYI, if they don't respond to your emails (like they did to me) go to their Facebook page and post on their wall. I didn't get a response to the 4 emails I sent their support email but, oddly enough, once I posted on their FB page, I got someone's attention immediately

Quite amusing too that once I did post, some of their troll marketing users commented negatively about my dislike of their case :D

LOL... but it did help me make up my mind. Thanks...

Yeah, at first I was satisfied, able to put it aside. I put more thought into it and the cons definitely pulled ahead. I'm done with the case. Went back to my Casemate Pop. Sorry for the contradiction. I was just really satisfied with the freedom of having it out on our boat, but once I got home and put it back into normal daily use, my mind was quickly changed. If you don't have an underwater camera and spend a lot of time on your phone around the water, then the sacrifice is feasible. Although I love being able to handle my phone freely on the boat, I don't do it often, and I think a waterproof bag will suit my needs. No need to sacrifice the phone's normal daily functions for it.

My vote sits on the negative side. Case is back in the packaging and ready to go on eBay. It's not a bad case, just not worth $70.

There isn't anything wrong with changing your mind. I'm just happy to read some honest thoughts and reviews from people here... other than the companies Facebook and people that they gave the case to for free. I would have paid the $70 if it was worth it. I'm just tired of my OB Defenders case, and want a little change. Since I had it for over a year... and my iPhone 4 is still great shape, I'll probably look at other cases for looks... and not so much for protection.:)

Well here is my LifeProof story.

1.)I submitted my credit card information on the first day you could for pre-order customers.

2.) Did water proof test, it passed, installed on iPhone (Saturday 12 noon)

3.) Saturday 3 P.M. after one phone call, a few text messages, and 2 hours in my pocket I notice the earpiece membrane has ripped out and now the case is no longer dust, water, or any proof: rendering it useless!

4.) Monday morning (today) I sent an e-mail to LifeProof, because they list NO phone number on the web (???!) and now I must wait AGAIN for the case I just waited ~2 months for.

5.) As of now I would NOT recommend this product to others.

The Otterbox is a great case. I just don't like the way the screen protector looks, and the rubber gets caught on my pocket a lot.

Too big for me. I'm really liking my Casemate Pop.
