OK, got the 3rd generation of the Lifeproof case today and I'll post a picture showing the 3rd generation later tonight.

Here is the picture I did of version 1 & 2 a while ago and I'll get the 3rd version up here later.

Damn this case is already on the 3rd iteration. They seriously must not have tested this thing before releasing.

Here are a couple pictures showing the 3rd version of the Lifeproof Fre case for the iPhone 5. This case has a pretty thick black rubber pad in the middle of the back along with the soft white foam strip from version 2. This case is also in the 150,000 number range, so I'm not sure when they started version3. :p

Wonder what's in store for version 4 ?

Wow thanks a lot for this information. They only add little simple fixes that supposedly make a big difference. Is this version btw any better than version 2? If so what are the changes? And where did you get this version, lifeproof warranty replacement?

Not sure about any improvements as I have not had the chance to put the phone in it yet. I'll try it later tonight. Got it at Best Buy as they just got in a whole new shipment of Lifeproof cases after being out of stock for a while.

Just went through the ones at the store and get the one with the highest number. Most were in the 74,000 range but there were a few in the 150,000 range.

I believe the new rubber pad will stop the vibration problem on the back panel.

I'll test it tonight and post back here. ;)

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking, appreciate the information! :)

hope the screen will be fixed with the 3rd! so the 3rd ones were producded somewhere btween 74,000 and above or 150,000 and above?

What do you guys mean it's in the 150,000 range? Where do I see these numbers at?

Also, I just picked one up. How thick is the rubber padding around the rear window? I can't tell if mine is the 2nd or 3rd version.

The numbers are on a little white sticker on the back of the packaging in the lower right hand corner.

Do you have the little black rubber pad in the middle of the back shell?

I do not. I'm about to go back and see if there is one in the 150,000 range. The one I have is 114,000

You have 114,000 and no rubber pad?
They must have added the pad to the very latest ones.

At least we are narrowing it down. :p

I wanted a lifeproof after 4s one but u guys are talking me out of getting one for iPhone 5 , sounds better to have otterbox .

Otterbox armor which is their waterproof case will be announced or given more I info anyway on the first week of January.

OK, installed the iPhone 5 in the 3rd Generation Lifeproof case and here is what I think.

First thing I notice is that the big yellow sticker on the back shell peels off nice, smooth and easy, leaves no residue behind.

The case passes the 1 hour water test with flying colors.

The new rubber pad eliminates the speaker buzz/rattle from the back panel and is a wonderful improvement.

There is still some pillowing on the very top and bottom of the front plastic screen shield near the home button and top camera/speaker areas.

Calls seem better as everyone can hear me nice and clear and they do not sound muffled on my end either.

The proximity sensor works perfect and I can end calls with no problems at all.

There are a couple of small areas of oil slick/rainbow behind the front screen shield.

The front and back of the plastic case seem to fix together a little better.

My second generation the fit was off pretty bad and had a noticeable lip where the front and back shells meet.

Overall this 3rd generation model seems better then the first two versions.

I’m sure there is a 4th version out there and I’ll keep an eye out for it in the near future.

These are only my thoughts after using the case for an hour or so, you mileage and experience may vary.

Good luck. :)

Not going to lie I was very scared to get this case I am typing this as the lifeproof is on I got the 3rd generation of it and it is awesome! Mine is in the 109,000 range. Screen is awesome very responsive and I can even end calls with no problem also no pillow effect :) coming from an otterbox defender this is an awesome case the padding on the back did make a difference

Weird... I had a 114,000 case and no padding.

So the 3rd generation was great yesterday until today the sound started muffling the screen protector just went horrid with all the rainbow affects and bubbles took it back to bestbuy not worth 80 bucks just going to stick with my defender for now it hasn't let me down yet :)

It just turned to crap overnight?

I'm still hanging with the 3rd gen and the only problem I have so far is a couple of small rainbow spots. :)

I noticed that after trying to clean the inside of the screen protector and the screen on the iPhone (with eyeglass cleaner and then alcohol), I cannot avoid getting huge sections of rainbowing. However, every time I've had to take the phone out of the case while in a dry/non humid place with moving air for some time (~30 minutes?), when I put the case back on without cleaning it again, the rainbow effect almost completely disappears.

I should have a new case from Lifeproof directly in the next 3 days to do my own tests.

pretty much i couldn't get the muffling sound gone and then idk when i stuck the case on it had no bubbles and no rainbow affect at all then when i woke up it had the rainbow affect so bad you could see it while the phone was on and after that i couldn't even get it to go away.

The best stuff to use on these screens is a product called Novus #1 Plastic Polish. It works wonders and makes the Lifeproof screen so smooth and responsive.
