It's a shame that a review of a product turns into a flame war. Oh wait, this always happens. :D

Does anyone know from experience how this compares to the Otterbox Defender when it comes to drop protection?

i have dropped it many times now. i cracked three otterbox defender cases in the time the 4 was first released to a month ago so i have personal experience. this case looks like **** when dropped a few times. no complaints about the drop protection though.

lol listen dont get all pissy cause you bought a case you dont like

harry potter lol you geeks are funny! :D

what the hell? cool story bro.

Exactly, this guy has absolutely no idea what hes talking about. He doesnt even have a lifeproof... Common sense alone would show that a phone completely encased in a waterproof case would have sound degraded. But i guess this harry potter fan believes magically sound is enhanced.

not sure what that meant by that last part. but yeah he's mistaken.

No your the harry potter fan because you think a case that covers a phone completely will have enhanced sound somehow. What I was trying to say was stop living in fantasy land. It was just a joke no need to get riled up.

well guys, looks like i'm going to have to eat my words. i was on the interstate this evening coming home from work, and i adjusted my seating position, when i felt the phone slip out of my pocket. i pulled over and stopped as fast as safely possible. after searching for 20 minutes and walking the same 1/2 mile on the shoulder of the highway with no light other than the passing cars i found it.

it had to have been run over at least once, because i was in the center lane and it ended up in the right shoulder. so i shoved it in my bag where it should have been in the first place and went home.

i didn't even check to see if it worked until i had a chance to sit down and calm down. i just switched from having a blackberry for work and an iphone for home to just this iphone, and i had a few very important quotes on it.

damage to the case is pretty bad. popped the screen protector out at the bottom corner, crushed the upper corner and the dock flap barely closes. and the screen is cracked in the top corner.

but..

my scathing review has been diluted significantly after this experience. who cares if the screen protector makes the touchscreen wonky when the case protects the phone from a 75mph fall on the interstate and being run over by a car. lifeproof, i like you.

well the darn thing isn't even scratched. but take a look at the case with better pictures.

I registered on this site specifically to comment on this thread. For $30, the case would be ok. For $85 this case is a joke. It went back to BestBuy after a week. After two days my phone developed the common "oil slick" under the screen. That got annoying real fast and no matter how well I cleaned the phone the oil slick still stayed. The worst part though is the face proximity detector got covered up so when I was on a call my check would bump the mute button or end call. This case really made my phone unusable. It's a great concept, but executed poorly IMO and much too expensive.

i had that problem when i first got the case. i used the microfiber and warm water and it was cured. to be honest with you the screen protector sucks. but if it protected my phone from what happened, then that can be overlooked. people who are rough on their phones should get this case.

Bought 3 life proof cases for the 3 iPhone's in my family. Watched the videos, did the waterproof test, all went well. My daughter dropped her 4s from her pocket to the floor. No force, just a drop. WE HAVE A CRACKED IPHONE!!! I'm very disappointed in this product and will contact customer service, but if their service is anything like their product, I don't expect much. Don't waste your money!

I hate you had a bad experience with this case but I bought this case and I love it so far!! I was real skeptical at first but pulled the trigger and now am glad I did. After doing the water test and everything working out just fine I had to take a deep breath before submerging my phone under water. Everything worked great. I have not had the case for long so if anything happens I am still in the thirty day window to take it back. I hope I don't end up getting the grease spot under the protector. I cleaned my Iphone real good before putting it in the case. I had a Riot Outfitter case for a while and while it was a nice case it had a habit of getting that grease spot. Drove me crazy!!

i think your daughter is not being truthful about how she dropped her phone. my pictures prove my point.

Their is an easy solution for the Newton's Ring or Oil Slick. I had a very minor one that started to apear and was driving me a little nuts. I was skeptical of the fix, but tried it.

I left the phone and case open in a cool air conditioned room in my house for about an hour. I then created a very mild cloud of baby powder (so small, you can not see it in the screen at all). Put the phone back in the case, and have not seen the ring since. It has been a few days now, and I had them as soon as I initially put the case on.

I have not had any proximity sensor issues though.

So far I really like the case coming from Otter Box Commuter and Reflex.

There is also a Youtube video of this (in the Youtube video it is for the OtterBox Defender which has the same issue).

It's unfortunate that no case is perfect, but I have to say that IMHO you are being way to impatient with this case. First, if you don't need waterproofing and heavy protection, you don't need this case. I am fishing every weekend and need a waterproof case. I have had a Lifeproof since I got the phone, which is now almost 6 months. It has never failed. I've dropped it a number of times, on hard floors and boats, it's been through pouring rainstorms, and the pillow effect it had initially is gone. It has a little rainbow effect now and then, but it's not disturbing (and can be fixed if you really care by simply blowing a little air into the bottom ports; I don't bother as it's not distracting to me at all). My partner (we both are part-time guides) also got one a month or so later, has never had his opened, and loves his as well. The only thing I don't like about it is the need for a dock extender, but that's a small price to pay for the degree of protection I get from this case. Admittedly, I need a waterproof case. If I didn't, I probably wouldn't have the case, but it has exceeded my expectations, and it's a whole lot more svelte than the comparable Otterbox cases, which offer less protection. By the way, the optical glass allows some great fish pictures, another great plus.

Edit: And it just so happens the sound is improved, in my opinion, because the case is sealed and the back panel vibrates like a planar speaker.

I have been threw two lifeproof cases now the second one the glass that cover the camera came off and ruined my iphone. I really wanted this case to work since I spend alot of time near water but it just doesn't.

Best Buy review don't mean nothing, I will agree that for real reviews you have to come here. I purchased this case at best buy and no go, after returning for the 3rd. time I said, no thanks.
Case as case is ok, but as advertised for all the purposes intended they have failed and for almost 100. with tax in, no thanks.
Wish it would work as advertised...

LiFEPROOF LOVER

I Love my lifeproof case, No troubles at all. Also found it online at spinxk.com for 69.99. No water leakage or anything . Just 100% Protection. Has to be the best thing invented for iphone.

True story, i'm loving mine. Best purchase I've ever made for my iPhone.
But I still have chills while submerging it xD But it's ok, nothing happens :)

Not waterproof

I went swimming 4 times with my iPhone in the Lifeproof case and had no issue. Though the 5th time I took it swimming after owning the case for 40 days my iPhone is dead/ruined!

Don't fool yourself into thinking this case is 100% waterproof and most of all don't go swimming with it!!!!!

I bought a lifeproof this past week and the little circular rear camera lens cover was loose in the case when I got it.

like i said, i'm sorry if you had a negative experience and in no way do i intend to minimize that and i do understand your frustration. You're certainly not the only who have both sound issues and slow customer service response. It seems there's some qc issues going on with them.
So what are u mad about again? I just hope you realize you are in an argument with someone you don't know! Albigensian with that you will never see them, ever! Grow up. You are arguing about a cellular phone case! Hahaha! Seriously?....

now you're out of line. Don't tell me where to post. I will escalate this to the moderators if needed.

I think you meant to say" through" two cases. Just saying. You should really watch your spelling. It makes you look stupid when you misspell words. FYI stupid

Just incase you didnt hear....

there was a news clip on the today show or something about 2 guys flying over the gulf of mexico when the small twin engine plane caught fire and they had to try and land in the water. The pilot had his iphone and ipad with him (both sporting the lifeproof case) when the plane went down. Long story short, they floated for 3 hours waiting for coast guard while taking video on the ipad to record the whole incident and his phone in his pocket fully submerged for the entire time. actually called his mother from the phone as soon as they got back to land.

Another incident there were two young boys that got caught in a flash flood and were knocked off the road and washed into a ditch upside down were they could not escape the vehicle. The driver was able to call 911 from his iphone in the lifeproof case!

Just thought that was some good information to share. I know its not the case every time buutttt i love mine and i wish you could all experience the same!

Oh one more lol boater dropped thier ipad into lake and recovered it with scuba gear more then 20 hours later and to everyones surprise the ipad was just fine!

Look up these if you dont believe me.
