I was going to say, I have yet to hear this about the Black...wonder why...

It happens on white phones.

My friend has a white iPhone 5 and we tested the cameras next to each other at the same settings in a dimly lit area and used the flash. The black phone's image was outstanding where the white iPhone was kinda foggy. I have seen this on other white iPhones. The LED illuminates the case and lowers image quality:rolleyes:

im sorry but this is 10 times more serious than some tiny dot on the back of my aluminium iPhone threads...

that said i have the same leak and will wait a week-two for new batches to arrive, then return my phone and open the new one in the apple store until i find a flawless one.
no matter how small the defect this phone isnt the most expensive on the market just because it doesnt have the best processor, ram and a reliable map.this should serve them a good lesson to take quality control more serious jesus christ

I hope whatever device you end up with is infinitely worse than your current one. EVERY manufacturing process has some defects, there will be no "perfect" iPhone. Does Apple advertise the iPhone as an air-tight device? About 40% of the surface of the device is a light source...there are buttons, speakers, a SIM tray, headphone jack and power cord plug flanking that light source on every side....I'd say a light "leak" should be expected. Jesus Christ.

there is a small nick on the left top corner i didnt care about but seeing how what i find more important is in fact inane i guess i should just listen to everybody else and demand a nick-less phone instead.
better?

A 'nick' is damage. If it indeed came straight out of the box with damage, that's a different story. Complaining about light leak in pitch black conditions with the brightness cranked all the way up is a different story.

The light is quite noticeable AND annoying. My brightness is not turned up all the way to see an obscene light shining through a crack that is not suppose to be there. I paid $300 for this phone; I have the right to complain b

I agree. I had to pay around $500 after the upgrade charge and activation fee. I have the white 16GB iPhone 5 and it has the same issue, even with my brightness only about halfway up. It's a huge issue and I will be returning my phone to the Apple Store today after work. Not taking a refurb phone either, had that issue last year with the 4S. The headphone jack produced a lot of static and they gave me 2 different refurb models and the home button on them were awful. I'm taking my box and all accessories and swapping for a brand new phone since I ordered from :apple:

Update: After much hassle, I exchanged the phone. Needless to say, my new white iPhone 5 does not have the light leakage and passbook works. I am never buying an iPhone on the launch date again; I will just wait...

I took my iPhone to the Apple Store, the Genuis took it into the back to check it out in a dark room and came out with a replacement. He said that Apple HQ wants the phones with those problems returned so they can get to the bottom of the problem.

The new phone doesn't have the problem.

Mine has it too.

Mine has the bleed in several places. I also noticed the glass panel is uneven with the right side raised slightly higher which is where most of the bleed occurs. When pressing down on the glass at top right corner, the bleed at the power button goes away. I guess this could be fixed by lifting up the glass and reseating it. I really don't want to replace the phone because there are no nicks and scratches on it.

Isn't what you described worse than nicks and scratches that will inevitably come with time?

MacRumors seems to be the place to whine about such mundane things.

Granted I have no idea why these people are complaining about it. However, A light leak is a very serious issue. It means there is space between the screen and the bezel which means that dust and other particles could get into your phone and well I don't need to explain why that would suck.
