Is it true the adapter will NOT support iPod audio out? If true that defeats 90% of the purpose.

I need 2, one for my Zeppelin Air sound dock and one for the iPod/iPhone hook up in my car.

Hopefully they have a black adapter eventually.

Not so fast, it says right there on the page that "Video and iPod Out not supported." That means it won't play your music on your Zeppelin, just charge. If your car has a USB hookup for iPod like my Honda Fit does, then you can use a lightning cable and that'll work.

It's pretty crazy that the cable itself is only $19, but the adapters are $29 and $39... that just doesn't feel right.

Im sure there are a million reasons apple doesnt use USB 2 and havent for the last 4 years.

Everyone else seems to.

the more I think about it they said the new connector is "all digital" wasn't the old connector partly analog? Maybe thats why the adapters cost so much its much more involved then just reconnecting pins.

My car has a factory connector... not USB, some proprietary Nissan iPod/iPhone Cable

Also... Then what the hell is the point of the adapter... if all it can do is charge, why would I get an adapter. That can't be right.

Now I'm really confused. Apple's website says the connector doesn't support iPod out, yet in the keynote, they showed a picture of it working with a car audio system: http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/img0211.jpg

Anyone have a clue?

Can anyone help clear up my confusion? On Apple's website for the lightning/30-pin adapter, it says that it doesn't work with iPod out, yet in the keynote, they showed it working with a car audio system:

So will the adapter work with car audio systems and speaker docks, or not?

Would love to know the exact same thing. In my car I have both use of video out and audio out with my current phone. If this is no longer usable with these adapters that completely suxs!!!! What is the point of the adapter then if you can't use it for video out or iPod out???? To charge the thing????

This is crazy. To pay $30 for something that just charges it? What's the point?

Just spoke with an apple rep, and he seemed to think that it WOULD work with audio, but not video. He couldn't give me a definite answer and just said that I could return it within 14 days if it didn't fit my needs.

$30 usd / $35 cdn is for sure a RIP OFF ... I've always hated how Apple gouges with their accessory prices.

Not to mention the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar so what's up with the $5 premium.

I hope everyone emails feedback at Apple and expresses their feelings about their over priced adapters. http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
... maybe it won't make a difference but the odds are better compared to complaining amongst each other here ....

Go to the Apple store and look at the Lighting to USB cable for $19. No mention of iPod out not working. I will get one of these for my car charger since my Belkin has a USB connector on it. I need it to work with my Ford Sync system.

Just ordered a couple extra USB cables. I have a lot of chargers around the house . . .
