I'm curious as to what the symbol will be for the new "Lightning" connector, considering the Thunderbolt symbol is a lightning bolt? It can't be a cloud, as that's the symbol for iCloud.

$29 is a rip off? Get a job. $29 is small change to most of us. If it's that big a deal wait a few weeks and there will be knock offs much cheaper. But at the end of the day, Apple invests a lot to be the first to have these, they deserve to get a return on thier investment before people who invested nothing sell them for $5. Good for Apple. At the end of the day, you know the cost, you choose to buy or not to buy - no rip off there. Have a nice day.

Just ordered a couple of USB cables from the Apple store. I have a bunch of extra chargers around the house . . . Not thrilled that they changed, but oh well . . .

pretty salty considering they are forcing us to use it as opposed to some sort of option.

Just wished it was shipping sooner :( Says shipping in Oct and I leave Sept 28th for a 12 day vacation and my portable charger will not work without the adapter.... No way my phone will last 12-16 hour days...

The price doesn't bother me much. I plan to buy only one adapter and just carry it in the little tiny watch pocket of my jeans that never gets used. That way I always have it with me and can switch it from cable to cable. It's a lot cheaper than replacing the 8 cables that I use on a regular basis between my house, work, and cars.

Highway robbery and price gouging are the first things that comes to mind. I have at least 4 devices (not counting chargers) that will need an adapter. And using the excuse of "It's an Apple product, what did you expect" is complete horse-dodo.

Get a job? Dude you do know people work hard for their money right? Do you understand that Apple products shouldn't just target a certain demographic? I guarantee you, tell someone that $30 for something they could have a least include with the phone is not a rip off. You won't like it. Apple is a multi-billion dollar company and you think port accessories really bring in that much revenue for them? Please don't get it conflicted, look at what Apple has been through. Its an attitude like yours that bankrupted them or nearly did in the past.

Sure its small change, but the principle is Apple is price gouging. According to an article i read recently, Apple won't be offering licenses to reproduce these adapters any time soon. So our only choice is to over-pay.

I am still a little confused about what this will be used for if audio/video are not supported. All the chargers have a modular USB cable, and the lightening cable is ten dollars cheaper than the adapter. What is the use case for this adapter?

$30 usd / $35 cdn is for sure a RIP OFF ... I've always hated how Apple gouges with their accessory prices.

Not to mention the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar so what's up with the $5 premium.

I hope everyone emails feedback at Apple and expresses their feelings about their over priced adapters. http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
... maybe it won't make a difference but the odds are better compared to complaining amongst each other here ....

What a TOTAL RIPOFF !!!!! :mad::mad::mad:

Not like they have hundreds of BILLION of dollars in cash reserves.
Charging $29 for that adapter amounts to nothing more than HIGHWAY ROBBERY.

The Micro USB to Lightning adapter looks pretty nice, might get the knock off version for when I stay at other peoples houses.

The large size of the adaptor, the price and the fact that they call it "intelligent" leads me to believe there's some not so simple circuitry in there, so don't bet on knockoffs appearing so soon.

Here's the other issue, WTF would the adapters not be available now for pre-order to prepare everyone. Dumb!

i don't mean to rain on your parade, but most people in this country don't even make 1/2 of $29 per hour. so to blast out a statement like that is extremely ignorant of the economic times we are in right now. not everyone...actually...most...are not nearly as fortunate as the people in this forum.

with that said, for people to complain about a $29 adapter for a $700 phone is a bit comical to say the least. i look at it as if you had the money to buy a $700 phone and paying an extra $29 means you can't eat dinner that day, then you have no business buying that phone.

My guess is simple audio out will work (hence the keynote pic). I think what is meant by "iPod Out" not working is the mirroring of the iPod interface to the car's audio system such as here;

http://techcrunch.com/2010/07/13/io...to-your-car-without-the-messy-third-party-ui/

I'd go along with that, except to add that the current 30-pin has two different audio outs, a digital one and an analogue one. IIRC the new connection only has a digital out, so current accessories that rely on the analogue audio out will no longer work (even with an adapter) as they don't have a digital to analogue convertor (DAC) that devices using the digital output require.

Yeah, they should have just given it to you for free. Sorry, bro. Welcome to the real world.

No. You can choose to purchase or not to purchase. Your choice. Doesn't seem to expensive to me. If it does to you, don't buy one. Easy.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it. Save your money. If $290 is the difference between eating or not - you have more serious problems than the cable on a premium phone.
