Though the price is kinda high, technology is what it is. I mean look at 8 tracks to cassettes to Cds for example. You know eventually any tech will become obsolete in time. This will be an expensive time period as we move from the 30 pin to this one.
Or just get the straight lightning to usb for only 20.

Why get that bulky adapter anyway.
WTF is all that plastic needed for with Lightning?
I'm not so much concerned about the price - although it is totally exhorbitant and unreasonable - but the dimensions.
The Lightning to 30-pin (new dock->old dock) adapter is HUGE in height/depth, and will almost certainly affect fit tolerances (i.e. not fit or look like all kinds of crap) with accessories like BOSE and B&O docks.
Earlier this year I bought the (thanks to EU-legislation) micro-USB adapter to charge my iPhone in my car using existing charger, and you can see how much better/low profile this is in comparison, especially useful when using a sat nav cradle. Even the new Lightning to micro-USB adapter is sleeker.
WTF is all that plastic needed for with Lightning?
To illustrate:
NEW Lightning to 30-pin adapter (~30mm?)

OLD Micro-USB to 30-pin adapter (<10mm)

Don't forget you also have to buy the "new" charging block that the cord plugs into for another $20, because all the old ones won't work.

When you've been a Loyal Apple Customer as long as I have, you come to expect Apple to screw you with obscene pricing.I heard this was going to be 10 and 3 for 29 but jeez one for 29 apple will make a killing.

disappointed
I personally think it should be included for free.
No. they are the worlds most successful company that just changed a cable and are charging a ridiculous price for compatibility with their own existing cables that do the same thing.Apple is not a welfare program.
I can easily afford $29, but I refuse to purchase this because psychologically, nobody wants to be ripped off. How can you ignore the crux of the frustration with this, is not because $29 is a lot of money. You do realize people here buy the actual phone for hundreds of dollars. These are the last people who would proclaim $29 is too much money.
Your post is irrelevant, and I find it bemusing that you don't seem to know what the definition of a rip-off is. People are frustrated with Apple because they feel that Apple are trying to rip them off. And finally, if Apple wanted a good return on their investment, they would have priced it much lower, because, as of now, many people will wait for the cheaper knockoffs, and no one will purchase the $29 version.
Hey everyone!!! Look at THIS guy!!! He doesn't think paying $30 for a $2 piece of plastic is THAT BIG A DEAL!!! We should really all take advice from this gentleman and his superior spelling/typing ability. I mean, if HE said "their" is spelled "thier", then who are we to complain!? We don't even have JOBS! But at least we'll have a nice day while getting financially ****ed up the @$$ by the most profitable company in the history of technology.
Apple is not a welfare program.
The lightning to 30 pin adapter does not support audio or video out so you are basically buying an adapter to your charging cable for 30 bucks! STUPID! and not to mention greedy! I will stick with the 4S phone instead of disabling ever dock in my house! Thanks crapple!

Apple often gets slammed undeservedly and I understand why people defend them. but in this case then $29 is simply too expensive. It's ok to admit that.
If it's too expensive, don't buy it. My goodness, it's amazing the silly things peiople get there panties in a bunch over. It's $29. Get over it.
WTF??? Does this mean the new iPhone won't charge with computer USB ports? Or existing USB car adapters??
