I'm out of town for work and am about to plug my phone into the clock radio in the hotel that has an iPod dock. When I start thinking about all the places I'd need to take the adapter - car, dock at work, on the road - it seems like a PITA for a phone that doesnt bring any killer features.

And $30 for a propietery adapter? No thanks. Definitely going to hold off for awhile.

Only have one music dock I need this for. But for the cables, I'm sure we'll see those and this adapter from China very soon for a few bucks.

lol @ amount of people sweating over this

don't worry, you have a crap load of these in your drawer soon enough.

I hope the chinese can move fast on making these.

I was depending on that adapter to work with video. I connect my iPhone to built in 30 pin connectors on cardio equipment at the gym to workout to music videos. I may need to just keep my 4 to use it as an iPod touch :-/

$30 is ridiculous. Are they going to eventually convert everything to this new plug? iPads and iPods?

Does anyone else think it looks a bit prone to breakage? With the quality of Apple cables/headphones being so low already then I'm just not sure how strong that little plastic nub is going to be (or is it metal? I didnt see the keynote)

$30 is definitely steep for such a seemingly simple accessory. I'd much rather have one of those included instead of the "EarPod" headphones.

What really annoys me is that they won't be available at launch and we have to wait til sometime in October to get one (or two, or three...).

MacBook Pro Retina with new Mag Safe power cord came out & Apple sold an adapter for original Mag Safe chargers for 9.99 and they are metal!!!

So yeah I could expect it to be less!

iPhone accessories will always be higher.

Yep, that price is nonsense.
They dont even try to make it somewhat reasonable.
Im sure we will all soon be able to find them elsewhere for $1 each and the same for usb wires with the lightening connector at the end.

What's the whining?

The old dock connector was in use for nine years.

Things change. Nine years is a helluva long time.

Stop bitching.

Yes. We have accumulated 9 years of cables, car chargers, speaker docks, alarm clocks and various accessories that will cost $30ea to use with the new iPhone.

Youd understand the complaint if you bothered to read the first post instead of reacting off the title.

$29 is a rip off? Get a job. $29 is small change to most of us. If it's that big a deal wait a few weeks and there will be knock offs much cheaper. But at the end of the day, Apple invests a lot to be the first to have these, they deserve to get a return on thier investment before people who invested nothing sell them for $5. Good for Apple. At the end of the day, you know the cost, you choose to buy or not to buy - no rip off there. Have a nice day.

Every successful buisness in the world = $$$ - Always will be.

I can easily afford $29, but I refuse to purchase this because psychologically, nobody wants to be ripped off. How can you ignore the crux of the frustration with this, is not because $29 is a lot of money. You do realize people here buy the actual phone for hundreds of dollars. These are the last people who would proclaim $29 is too much money.

Your post is irrelevant, and I find it bemusing that you don't seem to know what the definition of a rip-off is. People are frustrated with Apple because they feel that Apple are trying to rip them off. And finally, if Apple wanted a good return on their investment, they would have priced it much lower, because, as of now, many people will wait for the cheaper knockoffs, and no one will purchase the $29 version.

When I saw some people expect Apple to BUNDLE this adapter I laughed. No way in hell. But $29? Just plain greed. I think $19 would have been more reasonable, and Apple would still bring in tons of money from it.

Apple Lightning to 30-pin Adapter Price. Daylight Robbery

I'm a long time dedicated fan of Apple products. I am someone who works very hard for his money and
I am fortunate enough to be able to afford their expensive products but the pricing of this accessory is outrageous!

I have no objection to profit margins but there has to be a limit. The price of this accessory is extortionate and adds to the general unease that I have started to feel about Apple.

Post Script: I have just spotted a comment from David Pogue on this subject, and I couldn't agree with him more or put it better myself:

“These adapters should not be a profit center for Apple; they should be a gesture of kindness to those of us who’ve bought accessories based on the old connector. There’s going to be a lot of grumpiness in iPhoneland, starting with me.”

Though the price is kinda high, technology is what it is. I mean look at 8 tracks to cassettes to Cds for example. You know eventually any tech will become obsolete in time. This will be an expensive time period as we move from the 30 pin to this one.
