My coffee mug does the same thing if I don't use a coaster. This is stupid. I suspect another person trying to squeeze out some settlement money from Apple.

Yup and as a kid I was slapped on the side of the head every time I put down a drink on a wooden table without a coaster. Now... I don't do that, it's all in the training... Dunno why Apple couldn't have alerted people to this up front but oiled/waxed wood hasn't changed much since the dawn of time.

Now technically the absolute best sound from a Homepod can be obtained through the use of 3 spikes to create a solid kinematic mounting... There's your free accessory idea of the day, I can't be assed to file the IP but you saw it here first.

Sorry, but I had to mention the only good second of this movie...

None of these should have silicone feet. It's an old issue with other products too. Gotta put something underneath, which often looks ugly.

I’m sick of people who think they are making compelling arguments by comparing Apple to the other competitors. What made Apple great was by not accepting industry standards but exceeding them. Apple should be held to a higher standard: because they set it. It’s not weakness to point out where they can do better. But it is weak to say they get a pass on things because the crappy competitors do the same thing.
Sure, but not using common sense and then blaming someone else is the epitome of stupid. There is no way to stupid-proof everything no matter how good the design.

Should they also warn you that if you leave it in place for an extended period near a window that the wood around it will end up lighter than what’s under it. This is getting ridiculous

It’s a non-issue. Follow Apples guidelines and it won’t be a problem for most. At least Apple addressed the reports of this rather quickly. And if somebody was truly concerned about their furniture, then just play something underneath the HomePod. Problem solved.

It’s an issue because it’s Apple. Think about the MacRumors comment section for a minute. An article with a positive spin for Apple usually gets a couple of dozen comments at most in response, like the article about Apple raking in 51% of global smartphone revenues. Now look at the articles that put a negative spin toward Apple, like the HomePod sound quality, that got over 600 comments in response, mostly negative.

Now watch as this thread grows exponentially toward the negative. MacRumors is a microcosm of the tech media world where only controversy and the negative narrative about Apple generates clicks, ad views, and income.

It's almost like objects that vibrate on top of a fragile surface will eventually damage it. This is crazy and shocking to me! I'm outraged.
BS, I have wooden bookshelf speakers (way more powerful than HP) on a wood desk. No amount of shaking leaves any traces.

Another reason to buy this piece of garbage. Ruin your furniture..lol This is probably the worst product Apple has ever released. Poor Tim. He's probably still screaming at them.

I love this article "It is not clear why Apple did not inform customers about the possibility of white marks on wood.."

Here's a thought! Maybe the article should be changed to read:

"It is not clear why Apple or Sonos did not inform customers about the possibility of white marks on wood..."

Or any other manufacturer for that matter.

Its mad, isn't it?

It really isn't clear why Apple are expected to take responsibility for everyone's sh*t in a way that no other company ever is.

I don't understand why Apple couldn't have reinvented the vibration-dampening silicone foot while they reinvented everything else about a speaker.

Nothing about the Google Home Max that's 2x heavier than HomePod and Sonos One?

I wish my car came with a warning if it is parked in the same spot for a long period of time, it may leave tire impressions.
In this case its the driveway that needs the warning(table). Just about anything set on oiled wood will eventually leave marks, easily fixed with wiping with rag + oil.
