I definitely consider it a possibility. Though, sadly, Apple underestimates screen estate. Their bloated argument "this has a higher resolution than a 60" TV" supports my claim. Apple is acting as if resolution is all that matters - It's not.

Don't get me wrong: Retina displays are a great idea. And I LOVE the alleged 75% reduction in reflection with glass in front of the screen. But we all know that retina comes at a cost. GPU and the battery is suffering tremendously. Speaking for myself, I'd much prefer better battery life and GPU performance.

I swear: At the distance from which I use my MBP 17" I have a VERY hard time telling a difference between text on my iPad 3 and the 1920*1200 res screen. And this comes from a guy who found the res of the iPad 2 to be unbearable to read on at the typical reading distance of an iPad.

i seriously doubt a 17" (either normal or retina) will be available anytime soon as most major news outlets have come to the conclusion that the 17" has been permanently dropped
They did that 10 years ago and the 17" came back nonetheless.

Retina Pro

Back in 2008 only the 13" & 15" unibody Macbook Pro was immediately available, it was a few months later in early 2009 the 17" unibody was released.

During this time Apple was still selling the older model aluminum chassis 17", with the same cpu/gpu ingredients I think.

It's too early now to say 17" are out... wait a couple more months and then I'm sure it can be fully confirmed.

Do you remember how Apple communicated this at the time? I'm assuming they continued to both stock and sell the existing 17" model until the upgraded unibody version was announced? In which case are we able to assume that the current (until yesterday) 17 incher is finished due to removal from Apple online stores??

Anyone been to a retail store today to see whether they will continue to sell the ones they had already in-stock??
