I wonder how long it'll be before the Met start moving people on at the London stores. Its actually illegal in the UK now. Some sort of anti-terrorism law

We love Woz.

No kidding. I should have my 4S pre-order tomorrow here in Atlanta but if I lived close I would definitely go hang out with Woz just to say I did, sans the 4S purchase. Don't you just love Woz? He's like a true friend that will always be there for you.

OMG! I'm gonna go hang out with Woz! :D

well to be fair - it's not THAT much different for many who have the iphone 4 and aren't gamers.

Yes - there's Siri. But since most of my usage wouldn't benefit from a faster processor or better camera (or even faster internet while not on wifi) - it isn't much different. And I suspect that for many - it's the same which is why people are saying "it's not much different."
How would you not benefit from the faster processor?!!...Don't you browse the internet?. I understand many are not gamers but have you seen the browser speed difference between the 2?. The 4s is much faster(almost twice as fast). So to say the dual core only affects games is not true. Also, I never carry a camera with me so having an increase of 3 mp on the camera as well as 1080p video on a phone that's on me all the time is a HUGE upgrade. I'm not saying the 4 is a bad phone, it's a very good phone. It's just the 4s is a lot better. It's the biggest upgrade to date yet. When the 3gs came out, it had a 200mhz increase in processor speed and a 1mp camera increase over the 3g. Then when the 4 came out, it had another 200mhz increase and a 2mp increase in the camera. With the 4s, you have an increase of 1ghz in speed as well as 3mp camera increase so it's the biggest iphone upgrade ever!!!!. It's the 4 on steroids!!!...that's what the s stands for.

It works. I paid a homeless guy To hold #5 spot for me in Miami for the iPhone 4. I was on my wedding anniversary and couldn't stand. So wife n I went out came back to room took a Lil nap went n got breakfast for us and the guy and got in line bout 7am. He slept in line from like 10pm the night b4.

I enjoyed queuing for my iPhone 4 last year. Met some nice people and the Apple store employees were awesome, they gave us tea/coffee while we waited. If I have the time to go down and it's warm then sure but not at this time of year, it's so cold and wet just now.

Just ordered online this time, will get it tomorrow :) I hope everyone who's queuing has a good time :)

That's weird. I wonder why there are such big lines internationally but not in the US. People can pre-order abroad, too, right?

I think for the user - the 3G to 3GS and even the 4 were "bigger" as just the front facing camera and retina screen proved to be more WIDELY exciting.

And to answer your question - no - for the apps I use - the faster speed isn't that big of a deal. I don't browse THAT much on my iPhone 4. More so on my iPad. Pandora, Drop Box, Email, Red Laser, Twitter, Facebook, Kindle - all apps that might work faster with the 4S - but the 4 is plenty fast enough for me.

As for the camera - I have a great camera for the times I really want to take a good picture. When I don't - again - the camera on the 4 is MORE than fine for online photos. I don't use the iPhone camera for video that much.

All personal use case of course. YOUR mileage (and excitement) may vary

DUH! questions:

Why didn't people pre-order? Well, not everyone has a credit or debit card and you can't feed cash through your computer down the cables so that all that moolah lands somewhere in Appleland.

When I pre-ordered my iP4S, I wasn't given the option of Reserve & Collect from my local Apple Store which is within walking distance of my house.

Why can't Apple give out tickets to all those queuing hordes? To generate free publicity, maybe?

and so on...

We don't have any of those lines here as most stores selling Apple goods are in malls. :p

I for one am going to get up @5 so I can be @ shopping mall by 6. They open the doors early so all the old people can go walking:confused: AT&T store confirmed to me they had enough stock for walk in sales. Plus I made a bet with my wife I would get my phone before her...she preordered and will not deliver till end of day:D:D

Yeah, you start to wonder when a Society cares more about a "Pretty Cellphone" over the welfare of their fellow human beings...

Can't it be both???

How does enjoying getting a gadget prevent someone from caring about their fellow human beings? Surely you don't have a single focus on one interest in your life... why would you assume others do?

That's weird. I wonder why there are such big lines internationally but not in the US. People can pre-order abroad, too, right?

I think it's got to do with the fact that in the states, Apple won't begin selling unlocked iPhone 4S until november, whereas in the UK at least, you can just buy it, stick your current sim in, and not have to renew your contract...

I usually wait in line, but this time I preordered. Tracking says it is here on schedule. The thing is, waiting in line gets you the phone early in the day, but whenever I get something by UPS those idiots deliver it at about 6:45pm because they do businesses before homes. Hope it's different tomorrow!

Waiting in line is as fun as waiting in line can be, Apple gives out water and snacks, and it's fun talking and speculating with your line mates. And the excitement a few minutes before the store opens is great..

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is reportedly the first and only person in line so far at the Los Gatos retail store in California.

Wish I was in California. I would happily stand in that queue just for the chance to sit and chat to Woz, he's such an entertaining guy.

Yes. You could pre-order here in the UK.

I would't stand in line and I'm not going to stand in line but I couldn't pre-order myself so I'm going to be real late getting my 4S when I order it next week. I'll probably call a couple of At&T's and closet Apple store to see if they have any in stock before I do though.

Do people think a white 16 GB will sell out faster than black? Or will white iphones in general will sell out before black iphones will?

Also I'm upgrading from a 3GS so I do feel that this upgrade is significant. ;)

Wonder how many people are standing outside in the rain tonight in Chicago.

Why can't they give the Woz a freaking phone so he doesn't have to stand in line! This guy was one of the founder of Apple computer. It's the least they could do!

Maybe to you browsing the net and using the camera is not that important. Also, the majority of iphone 4 owners don't own an ipad. I am willing to bet that to the majority of iphone owners browsing the web and using the camera are two of the most important features of the iphone. I had the 4 since launch day until about a month ago and it is a very good phone. It's just the 4s is better and arguing that is pointless. There is no way you can convince me that a faster processor all around won't make the experience better and smoother. Again, if you are happy with the 4, then fine, enjoy it.

I'll take an hour long snafu online to pre-order than waiting in line 12+ hours in the cold and rain any day.

For the iPhone 3GS and 4, there were lines each morning at many Apple Stores for about 3-4 weeks after launch.

I read that last year an AT&T store sold out on launch day at 10am. Also on another thread someone said they talked to a CS rep and who stated that once they sell out (in a matter of hours) that they won't get anymore stock in till November... not sure if I believe that... but if it is true, I guess you wouldn't see any lines the next day.

I got the original iPhone and the 3GS on launch day without lines by going to my local Apple store in the evening (I forget 6-7 -probably). The place was humming but I didn't have to wait at all.

I guess it works like this: before they run out of stock, but after all the crazies. ....

Exactly!

Don't these people have the INTERNET?!?!:p

It was easier to just pre-order the thing...I'm glad I don't have to wait in line all night.

Have you seen the AT&T pre-order thread. People are on the verge of burning down AT&T headquarters, and/or canceling their orders (that are back-ordered 21-28 days to ship) so that they can go stand in line tomorrow. I guess if you pre-ordered from apple, your sitting pretty right now... but there are others who have been living a nightmare by pre-ordering.
