this makes me vomit, i'd expect it from america but i would like to think the UK have better things to do than lose all dignity and respect in queueing 11hours for a phone, these people ruin the apple brand

You expect a massive move to a new cloud-based system to go off without a hitch? Especially when all the fans (and haters, too) on tech sites are dying to be among the first to slam the poor servers in question?

If so, there's some lovely swampland down in my neck of the woods you'd be interested in. Real primo property. Don't worry, the crocodiles are just a "water feature."

This is Apple we're talking about. Underestimating crushing demand is normal. This always happens. And the worst that happened this time is a couple of hours of e-mail downtime. Considering the enormity of this transition, I'm quite impressed.

For that reason I would expect a company like Apple to figure out a way to stagger the icloud, iOS intergration and migration. You made my point, they tried to go all in and failed. They should of known better, I expect more from apple.

Okay, but it defaults to your AT&T Billing address when you pre-order.

On apple.com, you're free to change it, and the order will go through. There are no restrictions on apple.com regarding this.

But if you order through the carriers, there might be a restriction. The order may not go through, if it even lets you submit an order.

BEST BUY question - please help

BEST BUY question - please help.

I pre-ordered at best buy on pre-order day.
got the whole e-mail confirmations, etc.
they say I have three days to pick up, etc...

I called to check that MY phone was available on first day, or learn when to come in. And the best buy told me that pre-order doesn't mean anything.

He said you have to be in line in morning and pre-order people will be taken first, but then the stock will just be sold out. In other words, anyone coming in at lunch time or after work in screwed.

anyone have any info?

The only thing that HASN'T changed in this phone is the screen.

not true, the ram is still the same

haha i wonder if there r any lines besides some crazy nerds here in germany. we tend to be really impatient ^^ people left after 15 mins INSIDE the telekom store here on iPhone 4 launch day

radio shack

I pre order my iphone 4s yesterday thru radio shack. Just received a confirmation phone call that my phone is waiting for me tomorrow. The manager told me there would still take pre-orders today. No line no fuss. And had the 16gb, 32GB, and 34 GB available for pre-order.

Why the heck can't they give these people numbers and tell them to come back tomorrow? Seems cruel to make them wait all night when all the store needs is proof they were there first.

They're already putting out barriers and such, so they obviously have the fact that people will be waiting in mind. Is it that hard to set up a ticket system?

Cruel? You're making it sound as though Apple are forcing them to wait outside all might, whereas it's actually their choice to do so :p.

People sitting outside waiting for a product gives them entertainment. Give it a break.

Exactly.
I waited in line for the first two phones and it was very social. It was almost fun. It depends on who is in line with you.

However, the pre-order is much easier.

I was going to go do that but thank god i did the pre order...I guess nobody is the Los Angeles area here ? I was planning of going to the local apple store and see how bad it gets over there...good luck to all trying to get the phone...keep posting pics!

This is by no means official, but last year my friend pre-ordered an iPhone 4 from Best Buy. It took him about three weeks after launch day to receive the phone. When there are waiting customers ready to pay it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to hold an item.

That's crazy,
Why didn't these people order online at the day of the launch?
I would never stand in line again after the last iPad 2 lauch.

I personally have no interest in waiting overnight for something like this, however, after being at a few OS launches, I can say the anticipation waiting in line shortly before the doors open is a fun experience.

Exactly.

Well I am sure it was fun for you, considering you did that twice now ;) .

Total Justification Fail.

If, as you state, this always happens - then Apple should have prepared for it or rolled it out differently. You're excusing Apple for not only a rocky roll out but that they were AWARE it would be and still didn't/wouldn't do anything differently? Wow... That's some stretch there LTD.

If this were any other company you'd be laughing your a@#$%^ off - that's a fact.

I don't consider iCloud and iOS 5's rollout a FAILURE - but a) it doesn't just work b) there are a lot of issues and c) there are a lot of questions on how things DO or SHOULD work.

And this forum - these are the techies - the blog followers - the early adopters - etc. Have you looked on the boards. Hundreds of threads asking questions and people confused and having issues. Some are silly and are easy fixes. Some/many are genuine questions and concerns.

Again - if this site garners more of the "savvy" people - I can only imagine how "mom" and "dad" are going to be when they try to understand iCloud...

I love Apple products, however, after waiting in line for four hours last year to get an iPhone 4 I swore off ever doing it again. It took something away from the experience, from the pleasure of getting the new iPhone if that makes sense. To each their own of course, if you want it that bad by all means have at it.

You you're right. Other than having twice the processor speed, 3mp increase in the camera and 1080p video, it's not that much different :D

well to be fair - it's not THAT much different for many who have the iphone 4 and aren't gamers.

Yes - there's Siri. But since most of my usage wouldn't benefit from a faster processor or better camera (or even faster internet while not on wifi) - it isn't much different. And I suspect that for many - it's the same which is why people are saying "it's not much different."

How much stock do these stores get? I remember waiting when the Wii came out and the person before me got the last one. ARGH!!
