And doesn’t work if you happened to upgrade the WHW03 Velop to an AX4200 parent node (i.e. only works if you have all WHW03 or all AX4200 in the Mesh). Utterly crazy!
Just to clarify, are you saying the AX4200 won't work with WHW03s?

I have WHW03s and might get one new one, but will be a long wait until I replace two or three.

Lock down how? Can you tie, say a speaker, to a specific node? Cos what I disslike about these mesh boxes is how some of my peripherals sometimes connect to far away nodes with a poor signal
HomeKit users can opt to firewall off HomeKit accessories to prevent them from communicating with other WiFi devices on a home network and untrusted internet services, putting a stop to hacking attempts and providing better security for connected home devices.
ie: lock down the Eufy cameras to not phone home to their Chinese servers but still make it viewable/controllable through HomeKit and iCloud secure video. Sadly it won’t do anything about the far away nodes, although I’m sure that’s more easily fixed with a firmware update on the mesh system itself.

Oh No! Say it isn’t so, Eufy cams phone home? I have 8 of them. Expensive garbage day if that’s true. :(

Thanks for clearing that up!

Well that is some crap. Here I am with the MX8501 and MX5300 with no HomeKit support. Two of their own flagships right now. Maybe these are not their hot sellers with lower priority.

Cause it is. The Velop with WiFi 5 still covers pretty well your home at fast speeds. Unless you have Gigabit Internet and/or need fast wireless speeds between devices, this isn't a needed expense given the prev. generation is still around.
But if you need to replace your 10-year old Airport Extreme's in your house, it might be wise to do so with the latest.
I didn't want to buy wifi 5 again and wifi 6 was just around the corner. Expensive? Absolutely, but with gigabit fibre it is worth it, certainly during lockdowns & home quarantine it's so nice to be all FaceTiming, watching HD movies and not having a single stutter or bad quality.

The AX4000 series was also updated with HomeKit, what a nice surprise. I picked 2 nodes up around 3 months ago for about $220 on amazon warehouse.

This is just the cherry on the glacé.

As someone who uses Ubiquity Unifi gear and am not well versed in consumer hardware, what does Homekit give you for a Wifi network? I mean, you set it up once and that's it, right?
I wondered the same. ASUS supports Alexa and I would have no desire to use it even if I made much use of Alexa (I just have a fireTV to keep an eye on it - decent, Apple TV app runs well)

I had hoped apple would add multi node wifi to Apple TV and homepod. Seemed a logical thing to do. I do miss AirPort Extreme. Loved the setup, migration and app.

Though in all my trials I have been super impressed with ASUS. Their app snd setup is closest I have seen and is genuinely useful. I have a long history and made a career of higher end network kit and it takes a lot to impress me or convince me a GUI is better than a terminal UI!

6 and 6E are the same except for the 6GHz range in 6E. They're the same standard. And if you don't live in a congested area then 6E isn't really useful and is more expensive as it includes support for the extra bands.
I do live in NYC, they’ve released the 6 just to sell something new and soon google will update their nest WiFi and we will see 6E more common option

nice to see something try homekit. Recently converted to it to give homekit a try. Coming from Google Home.

So Far been extremely dissapointed. hopefully more devices like this will encourage some improvements to the platform.

However: I have tried a few of the VELOP devices. I have poor Wifi in my house due to it's layout. VELOP consistently failed. the mesh units constantly lost contact with eachother, even when they were only meters apart for testing. Constantly bottleneck and performance degradations. Sometimes I'd get the 450+mbps I'd expect, but most days I was just getting 10-20mbps total.

the UI of VELOP is horrendous and the feature list of the router/firewall capabilities on the base node is about 15 years out of date with it's usability and feature list. it tries too hard to be "for dummies" while at the same time, just not having some of the most basic router configuration options. Even doing port forwarding was a complete nightmare that just didn't work half the time.

I switched to an Ubiquiti unit instead. While I'm not getting faster than 300mbps on the ubiquiti, it's stable and consistent. Doesn't drop randomly. Connects to all units instantly without the random unit dropping off for hours.

Simply put: AVOID VELOP

Yes, coming from a 10-year old Airport Extreme, this new system is great bang for buck. If you have the option available and are able to, then yes Gigabit Fiber is a must-have.

I tested a few recently. Tried orbi and linksys. Both good but had concerns. Always dislike Netgear restarting with most/every change.

I ended up with ASUS RT-AX and used two with AiMesh enabled. Very well featured and performance is amazing. Seamless handover and roaming. Superb AX support - getting Speedtest as at close to my WAN capacity (1Gbps). iPad Pro over 800mbps two rooms away. Apple TV (latest) the same. Can recommend them.

Thanks for the recommendatin> I've been fighting with a few different mess units and have consistent problems with some areas in my house Going to give these units a try

VELOP doesn't have this built in firewall capability of blocking or rerouting traffic. At least not a feature on my Velop units.

In addition, I haven't seen on VELOP any capability of forcing a device to a specific node. Some Mesh will have this feature (Ubiquiti does), but not the VELOP. one of the issues I had that forced me to replace mine. Devices would do exactly as you point out, connect to the furthest node and result in kbps speeds.

honestly, said it above, I'll repeat it again: VELOP is a terribly designed product that should be garbage binned. there are much better products out there.

Not sure what you mean by the Velop doesn’t support this. I guess maybe by itself it doesn’t, but I’m talking about enabling the router’s ability to be brought into HomeKit, making it a HomeKit Secure Router.

I still think a simple update would be able to fix the distant pairing problem. The two triband Velop nodes that I have have been flawless for me.

I have re-started several times, everything is up to date, routers are on WPA2 Personal. Nothing works for me. Anyone els having issues?

in your particular case 6E will help. And in the long term the price of 6E chips will drop to become more ubiquitous as they will be comparable to flat 6 chips. "Standard" is a funky word though. The protocol standard is identical. The bands are not. And a lot of peripherals still only work on 2.4GHz because those chips are still super cheap because they don't need to have logic to navigate the different radio bands. And google is far from a game changer here. Google will prolly be one of the first to put out a product but Linky and Netgear will be the turning it into a "standard" as they will be the ones to make it commodity.

We need a really good multi channel 6E router with a privacy focus. Why can’t this be a reality? Something with a bulletproof firewall, separate channel for IOT and 6-8 gigabyte ports for wired devices, throw in a VPN, bring it in at sub $300 level and I’ll be happy.

No joy on homekit integration. Keeps saying restart system. I have 3 - 4200’s. What gives???
