@Bouton888 Just log in as root with su, and then execute them as mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt.

Format your USB drive as FAT with one partition. Then reload it and try again.

ok i am with su on root
ill format drive as fat and try again

i tryed the mintppc, downloaded it, copy it on a cd, but it always say corrupt file till now
is there a good mintppc iso somewhere?

Please read the updated installation instructions. To boot MintPPC 32bits for G3,G4 from CD you have to go to open firmware. The 32-bits installer does not boot with ¨c¨ key pressed.

Go to tty (ctrl-alt Function key)
Login as root with root password and then for example:
Code:
apt-get install lxde lxdm
Then
Code:
service lxdm start

sorry but i could come in in root yet
i tryed ctrl+alt alone, then with all the F fonctions
do i use a tty for debian or for a mac machine?
and witch F fonction could it be?

@Jeroen Diederen Why would you suggest he install lxdm? LightDM is perfectly working on Debian 10 and it's already in. That will just over-complicate things.

@Bouton888 What desktop did you install, if you did install one? Did you install sudo so you can bypass logging in as root all the time?

It might be a keymapping / pbuttonsd issue. On my powerbook i have to use FN+CTRL+ALT+F1 - F7 as by default the function keys handle brightness, volume, kb backlight etc. Using FN bypasses that.

Cheers

yes i did not install the desktop yet, yes sudo is installed, i wanted to go directly on root to install the desktop
like i tried to say there are no desktop , but at login even if i enter the right login and password , it goes, and come again asking the same

It's not putting you into a desktop because you didn't install one yet. What else can it do?

If your PowerBook has an Fn key, you need to hold that when doing Ctrl + Alt + F1. Once you're in, do sudo apt install lxde or xfce4. Afterward reboot, and you should be able to get in.

thanks for advice
i coul not come in
is there a way to install the destop with a live cd?
i have the lubuntu live cd ready

complicated
i did like said fn Ctrl + Alt + F1. many time, nothing happended i tryed also with F2?and so on
[automerge]1578248294[/automerge]
then i put the lubuntu cd in
[automerge]1578248365[/automerge]
but the titanium is only 40g disk so i install the lubuntu on a usb stick
[automerge]1578248415[/automerge]
but now it does boot any more and give me invalid file name

So you're trying to boot from the USB stick in Open Firmware? What command are you giving it? The PPC Linux Wiki has a section on booting from USB. Try what's there.

Lubuntu will fit on a 40gb HD. You don't need to overcomplicate things with a USB stick. As long as the HD doesn't have anything critical on it, I heavily suggest installing to disk.

Thanks a lot, i finaly instaled Lubuntu on hard drive , will see how it work on this Mac, right now it has less then 1g ram, normaly on other computor , i use mostly Mint or Arch or Debian, I will anyway want to try on another hard drive the debian 10 soon and do the process all over again... witch one do you think fit best for this Mac Titanium?

Taking into account hardware compatibility, hardware capability, and ease-of-use, probably Lubuntu 12.04 (also available from @wicknix).

Of course, the decision is yours.

With other computer than Mac i have installed several distros beside,one other, and it s' quiet easy and work fine, you can choose at boot;
do you think with this Mac the process will be the same!
