I'm running ClickToFlash on 5.1 with no problems. I found it in Safari > Safari Extensions. It's like #10 on the most popular list.
Outstanding - thanks! I have downloaded it now and will see how it goes.

One more thing - do you have any problems with restarting your machine?

I've just downloaded the GM. Is it a straight upgrade or a clean install? I need to back up if its a clean install as I can't lose any of my data

awesome, especially as my external HD doesn't work since my cat decided, as a form of silent protest about his food being changed, to throw up on it -_-

if you install the GM and hate it - i assume if you have a CCC backup on an external HD you could boot from that - wipe the Mac HD and copy the contents back across?

Yes, you could do that. Just use CCC to restore the clone to your internal.

Has anyone tried Mac OSX Lion with a 2008 aluminum Macbook? I have a 2GB RAM, and I read a lot of people say that you should upgrade to at least 4 GB of ram. I'd like to avoid that if possible, and I wanted to see if anyone noticed any major problems by installing Lion on a 2GB RAM Macbook.

I have been playing around with the GM for a while now on my MacBook Air. This far, I can say that the Flash player hogs memory and makes the fans go wild under Safari 5.1. This means that I will be using Firefox until ClickToFlash comes up with a compatible release.

Initially, a daemon named helpd ate a lot of the memory first couple of times I used OS X Lion. It paged in nearly an entire gigabyte of virtual memory in a few minutes and the fans went up to full speed. But I forced the process to quit, and helpd has been calm at all subsequent reboots.

With Pages, Firefox and iTunes, 25 % of the battery capacity lasts for 80 minutes, so it seems like I get 5:00 to 5:20 hours on a full battery charge with this usage. This is what I used get to under Snow Leopard as well. In other words, I can see no significant change in battery life under the circumstances.
The new sandboxed plug-in models are really increasing the CPU usage from Flash. Do we have a 64-bit Flash plug-in for OS X? This is somewhat annoying but it is an issue that arose from the switch over to Snow Leopard. Chrome's and now Firefox's plug-in isolation, while beneficial, tend to dramatically increase overhead unless the user intervenes.

I've got 3gb of RAM in mine and Lion is running really well. My MacBook is the same generation as yours, just mine is the plastic version. The animations are smooth, the apps filter in really well.

All I need now is Lion to properly come out so more apps update to use some of its features, like Versions in Pages etc

When I installed flash in Lion, it said that the current version of Flash Player 10.3 was in beta. It is not however, 64-bit.

There is a 64-bit beta of Flash.

My cat also has a weak stomach, and given my experience with him I'm willing to bet that protest wasn't really all that silent. ;)
