One answer would be if Apple released a DVD, or a bootable disk image. This bootable image or disk, could allow a user of any compatible mac. The ability to boot into a mac app like store front, and download 10.7. It could also allow simple functions like erase and install options.

Regardless I sure hope were given some options to do a erase and install. Mostly for the ability to install on any hard drive I need to replace or upgrade.

I just installed Lion tonight. I downloaded it as a developer. It comes across as an app that can be copied to another machine. I'm assuming the same restrictions apply, that you have to have the same iTunes account. Thus all you need to do is copy it to a flash drive and you're set to go. But yes, looks like you'll need SnowLeopard.

You need SL to download the Lion app but I assume you could run it, and update your OS, on a system running Leopard.

No clean install option is a big negative though.
