Finally got everything working perfectly under DP3 - I followed the whole 'get rid of IO80211Family.kext' scenario and managed to boot into DP2, Update 2 and then into DP3.

I then used "Kext Helper" (http://cheetha.net/) to reinstall the .kext, rebooted, and everything worked like a charm. Hope this helps someone!

what kext? IO from dp2?

Yup - WiFi now works exactly as normal after reinstalling 'IO80211Family.kext' via Kext Helper.

So I am trying to update to DP3 but every time I download the update it will tell me i need to restart and it tries to install and it hangs on moving files like everyone says but then it restarts by it self and it just goes back to DP2 then i tried it where it download it and didn't restart the computer and i was going to boot in SL but i looked in the library/updates folder and only the Productmetadata.plist file was there but when it was downloading i saw everything but once it finishes everything disappears kind of weird. Any thoughts?

Solved mpro 2011

ok guys, solution is install dp2 then update 1 & 2 ... if problems with boot in dp2 update 2 follow this:

- enter in single user mode (cmd + s before of grey screen)
-mount lion volume and delete IO80211Family.kext (rm -r IO....kext)
- After reboot Lion start then install with next helper IO80211... from dp2 original

- Reboot
-WiFi now works
- Update to dp3 , restart and same step and repeat previous step for IO80211...

- Restart and you are in dp3 with wifi work ;)
Enjoy

I had the same issue on a 2011 MBP. No issues with WiFi, but it would always reboot with DP2 running after the update.

I ended up booting back to 10.6.7, downloading the updater, and running it (under 10.6.7) against a 10.7 DP2 partition. When I rebooted to 10.7, DP3 was installed.

Google for the direct link to download the DP3 updater that Software Update downloads. It will save you the trouble of having to "catch" it on disk.

OK, I messed up my IO80211Family.kext of SL when doing some testing (my own fault).

Before installing SL again on my first partition, I installed Lion on the first partition.
Guess what ... everything worked without any issues. All updates unto DP3 worked with no hassle.
Previously, I installed Lion on an external HD or on a second partition of my MBP hd. I always struggled to install the second update of DP2.

Installing Lion on my first partition solved all issues. I am now running DP3 and it seems to run smoothly.

Bummer .. after 3 times booting it stops again at boot.
Removing the IO80211Family.kext it works again (but without WiFi).

Strange ...

^^ Same here - I just did the .kext Helper procedure again and have everything running smoothly again.

Possible Solution

Hello all,

I too am using a 2011 MBP and have been having trouble upgrading to Lion. My computer failed to restart once it tried to reboot itself during the install process.

I managed to get around the problem by using the following start-up keys:

Command-Option-P-R – Reset Parameter RAM (PRAM) and non-volatile RAM (NVRAM)

My MBP then proceeded to the install page and rebooted without any problems.

Hope this helps.
