Liquid Glass popularity.

I wish it was more skeuomorphic than glass but I’ll take anything over the flat boring UI we’ve had since iOS 7.

I love iOS 6 (and as somebody who never updates anything, ever, I’d be extremely tempted by a return to the iOS 6 design), but the flat iOS 18 is far more beautiful than Liquid Glass, imo.

My biggest gripe is when buttons fail to work because of "what?" My guess is the CPU/GPU being taxed too much. Happens a lot on my Apple Watch.

Eye candy animations and transparency are far more critical than mere functionality according to Apple.

Those 2D displays are really 3D because the layers have depth (until a company figures out displays with sub-atomic thickness). 😉

I’d use iOS 6 if compatibility weren’t an issue.

But you’re right in a way: Apple, prompt me all you like. I’ll do everything I can NOT to have more glass on my device than hardware. It’s already fragile enough…

I was on iOS 9.0.3 from October 2015 to November 2020. That was with my 6s+. One of the last fully-untethered jailbreaks. Only reason(s) I upgraded was because my JB tweaks were all starting to break, I needed a new battery, and that phone had become a secondary phone by that time.

One DFU restore/upgrade and that was the end of five years on iOS 9.

I would die for a 6s on iOS 9. As you know, I lost mine (and my 9.7-inch iPad Pro on iOS 9) thanks to the activation malware of iOS 9 on A9 devices, in which Apple deactivated my devices and forced me to update to their malware.

Unjailbroken, without activation tickets, and without tools to do anything, I had to choice but to update them.

The 6s+ on iOS 9 would be a perfect phone for me. Honestly I was a little sad when you updated it😂

I had already lost my iOS 9 devices by then.

Yeah, I was too, a little bit. Unfortunately, I needed to restore (to replace the battery) and going back to iOS 9 wasn't possible. My consolation prize was getting dark mode, and as my primary phone was a Pixel at the time, it was a decent trade off for me.

I don't think however, that I could have handled being back stock iOS 9 with this phone as my primary. I had like over 250 tweaks just to make things the way I wanted. So my iOS 9 experience was never what everyone else's was.

Yeah, by 2020 iOS 9 was alright, but I’m not sure how much longer it had. Still, I’d use it for music, just like I use my iOS 10 6s nowadays (funnily enough, I have one of the rarest iOS versions ever. iOS 10.0, which has NO IPSW and Apple deleted it from public servers after three hours. The only way to have it is to have an iPhone that was set up for sale within those three hours (like me), or to update within those three hours. Some people estimate that you can count the worldwide iPhones running iOS 10.0 on a 6s or 7 in the single digits).

Knowing what I know now, I might have made a different choice. But, after 5+ years with my setup, I was bored. Since this was a secondary phone where stuff was consistently breaking, I really saw no need to keep it jailbroken.

There's a certain point with tech stuff (at least for me) where the benefit of using something old starts to be outweighed by the benefit of using something newer. I had a good run with that jailbroken iPhone, but I was spending more time trying to make it function than I was actually using it. I was also interested in seeing how dark mode looked on the newer version of iOS.

I remember that period of time fondly. But I wanted to move on with other ideas for that phone. Staying with a broken iOS 9 wouldn't have allowed that.

I passed a Ford Model T on the freeway once when I was going to pick my son up. Guy driving it was doing his best to go as fast as he could in the slow lane, but people were zipping right by him. It was cool to see, but I would not have wanted to be him in that time and situation. Same sort of thing for me with the 6s+.
