For anyone still looking into independent eSIM providers:
https://esimdb.com/

Enter the country you are interested in and it looks available plans and packages from multiple providers (gigsky, ubigi, TruPhone, MTX, Flexiroam.

Wow, have you seen this :

MTX Connect offers Free Chat Option with which you get to use many chat apps for free of charge. It is automatically activated for 30 days from the SIM card activation. It will be extended for 90 days with every balance top-up you make. It works without an active data plan and even with zero credit balance on the account. Supported chat apps are Telegram, WhatsApp. WeChat, Viber and LINE.

I don't think they let you pick a start date. I bought a 30 day plan a week before my trip starts but I'm only over there for 16 days so it will work for me. But I have to admit I wasn't looking for that so I may have missed a link -- don't think I did but I could have.

Got back from my trip and I had no problems with Ubigi. I wasn't streaming audio/video so having only 3G in someplace wasn't a problem. I did use more data than expected but that was because my Boingo WiFi app was interfering with my hotel WiFi login. Everything looked like I was connected to WiFi -- even apps that were set to only upload/download on WiFi did -- but I wasn't actually so some of the stuff went via Data. Deleted the Boingo app and all was well. Will probably use it again on my summer and fall trips as well.

So it was 3G only? What country?

Is Ubigi always 3G only?

When I was looking for a data plan for international travel, I came across a data service provider called RedteaGO. Its website is esim.plus. For most destinations it offers 1GB data for 30 days in eSim. The price is slightly cheaper than GigSky and Truephone. Has anyone had any experience with them?

I recently purchased a 1GB 30 day plan from RedteaGo for my trip to China. The data plan is from Hong Kong carrier three and uses China Unicom network in mainland China. Set up is pretty easy. I received a QR code after the purchase and added the secondary cellular plan by scanning the QR code. You need to have internet access when adding the data plan. Otherwise, it shows the error message that the cellular plan cannot be activated. Everything works and LTE Speed is fast.

I was in Germany (Berlin) and Czechia (Prague). I actually didn't track whether it was 3G or LTE, didn't run a speedtest (I guess I should have). Some have said Ubigi is 3G only but I haven't verified that personally.

I had 4G in Romania and Hungary with Ubigi, so it’s not 3G only.

Thanks. I’m a little torn. Ubigi is so cheap at $19/10GB but truphone apparently has LTE support in Spain at $19/3GB.

Have a few more days to decide. Wish I could find a definitive statement from Ubigi one way or the other. Wrote to their customer support but haven’t heard anything back in a week.

Ended going with Truphone for Spain. Was very good LTE service for a pretty reasonable price. Simple to set up and get going a day before flying out. I’ve since read that they’ve added the option to pre-order your plan to have it start at a date in the future so you can get set up well before you trip and not actually start the 30 days (or whatever term you have) until the selected start date.

Is there a more detailed list of eSIM providers somewhere? I know Apple lists the carriers but outside of that, it lacks any useful information like if they offer post-paid or pre-paid on eSIM, if it's provisioned via app or if you have to call or obtain an eSIM card like on EE.

EDIT: Doesn't look like there is a real list out there so perhaps this can be turned into a Wiki. Let's keep quick availability info on the main post but feel free to link to a more detailed post. Just want to keep it clean and information easy to find.

China

3: Pre-paid roaming data as add-on. Need to confirm if available to non-postpaid customers.

Germany

Telekom: Post-paid and pre-paid eSIM officially supported. NOTE: ID required to begin service regardless of eSIM or physical SIM. Additional information here and here.

Philippines

Globe: Post-paid eSIM only, no pre-paid support. You must visit one of the stores listed to set up.

Switzerland

Swisscom: Post-Paid and Prepaid. Prepaid QR Voucher available at every Swisscom Shop
ID/Passport required for registration (Swiss LAW)

Sunrise: Only Post-Paid.

UK

EE:
Post-paid eSIM only. You can call or go to an EE store for an eSIM card with QR code. No pre-paid eSIM.

USA

T-Mobile: No official post-paid support (some have been successful in a work-around but it isn't guaranteed and T-Mobile will not support if there is a problem). Pre-paid eSIM available via the T-Mobile eSIM app.

Verizon: Post-Paid eSIM only. Existing customers can call to have service switched to eSIM. New customers can sign up via the MyVerizon app. No pre-paid eSIM support.

AT&T: Post-paid eSIM available with $5 Blue QR card via in-store or chat. Pre-paid unconfirmed.

New Zealand: SparkNZ offers esim on postpaid / prepaid plans. Across all spectrums 3G/LTE

Used the Truphone app and activated the 1GB 5€ data network (LTE) plan via credit card here in Germany lying in my bed. Very convenient since you can do it from anywhere and don’t have to find a local shop which sells QR-codes etc.
  • Physical Sim for phone calls and sms
  • E-Sim for mobile data

Just got info from my provider Spusu in Austria that they will start offering eSim support from September. They're super cheap too, I pay like €6/month for 3 GB internet at unlimited LTE speeds and a lot more call time than I need. No support for the Apple Watch though, official reason being "Apple won't cooperate with them".

I am still annoyingly waiting for Telstra providing eSIM support, especially after knowing that Optus has provided eSIM support already.

I’m still hoping that Vodafone offer eSim support come September.

I’m thinking September, because that’d be a year after EE started to offer it (they were also a year ahead of everyone else for 4G here in the U.K).
