Ι still don't understand technically how vmware or parallels are supposed to work in retina screen. If the rendering tech is from os x and it needs to be compatible with retina, and windows uses it's own rendering tech, is our only hope windows 8 to work well with the mac? I would think so, since 8 will have better resolution independence support. I am not sure if devs of windows, or rather to what a extent they will update to it, so I am not sure if specialized windows software will look good on retina if they' ve not been updated.

Anyone care to discuss?

I too would love to hear how this is supposed to work/can be expected to work.

I can't get my head around it...

Does anyone know if there are any word processing apps that have been updated to support retina displays (or that look good right now)? I downloaded Sublime Text 2 but I'm wondering if there is anything else.

Lol what? Sublime is not a word processor. It's a code editor. No there still aren't any retina friendly word processors.

Thread has been stickied. Next time when requesting a sticky, please report the thread so a mod will be sure to see the request. I only stumbled upon the posts asking for a sticky.

It seems like a good idea for the time being ;)

I went yesterday to a local Apple store and downloaded and tested Eclipse and Netbeans IDEs. Eclipse fonts look horrible, but NetBeans is crisp and fine.

There's only one thing I want Retina-ized, a simple screenshot app with editing capability. Right now, Skitch, Snagit, and the rest doesn't seem to understand Retina displays at all. It also save screenshots in weird sizes.

I'm stuck using OSX's Grap > Preview (for editing) > Droplr as a workflow for now.

If anybody finds an app that works, please let us know.

Thanks!

I look through random sites occasionally including the Adobe forums but has there been any new word on CS6 update not just PS?

Im about a week away from delivery and im not sure what im gonna do with Pr and AE.

How does the current version of Adobe Lightroom 4 look on the retina display? is it pixellated like Photoshop? If so, any word on when it will be updated? I am not investing in Lightroom until I know it looks GREAT on this Retina display.

Ive looked for videos or even responses from actual users but I havent found much. Ill prob end up using an app that allows native res until they are updated.

All that screen real estate!

With the exception of the sidebar on the right (where it lists what friends have listened to), Spotify appears to have perfectly clear text.

The icons are a bit fuzzy, but they're small enough that it's not super noticeable.

A Few More Applications...

I would suggest that the following Applications (while not officially Retina compatible) would fall under the "Text Rendering Crisp with Retina" list.

BusyCal
Things
SOHO Notes
MacJournal
Circus Ponies NoteBook
Splasm CheckBook
Evernote

microsoft office needs an update

Good lord that will take a while. Didn't even think about it until now. Maybe I should get iWork, if it gets updated first (I assume it would) and MSFT looks to be dragging its feet, I might have to convert temporarily.

Outlook looks really good on the retina display. I doubt it will take them long to get Word, Excel, and Powerpoint updated.

After unchecking the "open in low resolution" checkbox in Pages.app, it seems that the second page of the document is ALWAYS blank. Text I typed in appear on the page layout sidebar and word count increased as I typed but it just shows up as a blank page. Ticking back the low resolution checkbox made the document visible again. :( I hope Apple comes out with a retina patch for the iWork suite, not having it optimized is just plain embarrassing to be honest.

Cool !
Can you share a screen capture ?
Thanks

I would like to see a screenshot too. I'm hoping the image and the icons all look great. However, I suspect that the image may look acceptable, but the icons will be 'fuzzy' and 'pixelated'.

I just read over at their forums (thirdstreetsoftware.com) that an update to Sente is in the works. No specific ETA, but they're usually pretty fast about stuff.

Another Application

Another application that could be added to the "Text Rendering Crisp under Retina" List would be the latest release of...

Onyx v2.4.7

There is no indication that Onyx is (or will be) Retina-compatible, but it looks good as is.
