Griffin iMic WORKS.

Tonight, I tested with complete success the Griffin iMic. Both the stereo out line works as well as the Mic and Line inputs. I was able to record with a simple voice notes program using a Shure Beta 58. The sound quality was fantastic. Being able to have a line in and mic in, opens up lots of doors for recording with the iPad.

Now that's interesting. I believe the iMic uses the generic core audio driver, so perhaps all USB audio interfaces that use this driver will work (most likely)

There are a few good multitrack apps that could use this. Not to mention, the tuners.

(Midi functionality would also be useful. A lot of audio devices use this just for control functions, along with midi audio data.)

I wonder if my Edirol UA-30 will work. As I recall, it uses the generic driver.

It is pretty good, and has a guitar input also.

wow bummer on the varied success for CF card readers. Would hope this would work with most considering most Pro cameras (by definition not use for those being picky ;) ) use CF.

Awesome, that's what I was waiting to hear. Going to order it now.

I'm trying different things to see what will work and what won't...

These DO NOT work.

Harmon Kardon USB (Speakers that came with the G4 Cube)
"Accessory Unavailable. The attached accessory uses too much power."

USB Microphone that comes with Wii Game, Disney Sing It. No messages pop up, and the voice recorder didn't recognize it either.

You might want to try those speakers with some hub power.

This weekend I will try these. They are powered USB speakers so that do not require a driver, so it will be interesting to see if they work.

I wonder how this is going to pan out.

Now that we know that the solid state cards and audio, via USB are supported, it's just up to developers to step up with the apps.

The iPad is a new interface so it may be a while before develpers warm up to it.

But stats like "1 milllion sold" might be an incentive ;)

Tested and works:
Verbatim 15-in-1 memory card reader
(CompactFlash Type I, CompactFlash Type II, Microdrive, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick MagicGate, Memory Stick MagicGate Duo, miniSD Card, MultiMediaCard)

looks like this:

EDIT: Just tried a Wacom Intuos 3, and got two error messages - one saying it's an unsupported accessory, and one saying it consumes too much power. After dismissing these messages, the unit doesn't work, unsuprisingly.

I tried the m-audio Transit. It powered up but I don't have a app to really test it.

mbox micro - Dont Work
mbox mini - Don't Work

Not that I expected it to work, but the M-Audio mbox Quattro does not work. I tested with both StudioTrack and Voice Memos.

Once the iMic worked, I was exited about StudioTrack. I was hesitant with a $39 price tag, but I purchased it for the multi track recording option. It crashes with any external mic plugged in when you attempt to record. It has major bugs, and is in desperate need of an update. A program like this has HUGE potential, if they figure out a way to make something like an mbox work. 4 channel simultaneous recording on the iPad? That's a game changer for sure.

MBA Ethernet adapter - nothing, nada, zip. 1st gen MP doesn't see iPad either.
After reading somewhere that this worked I finally tried it myself. You are indeed correct, the iPad doesn't do anything when the Ethernet adapter is connected & a connection hooked up. Ah well, i don't know when I'd ever use it anyway.

I have that app '4 Track' which very nice but limited to a mic.

If they ever update it to use USB it will be really cool with all those sliders and stuff.

You can pay huge amounts of money for an iPad like studio interface, which perhaps soon will cost like $4.99 :D

Actually, the expanded version of 4 Track is like $40 or something, but still it's relatively affordable and (portable) I guess.

note: Are these iPad updates taking a while or is it just me?

The Camera kit will import Motion MPEG .AVI videos created with the Casio EX-Z90 and videos in .MOV format created by the Nikon Coolpix L1 cameras.

Full length movies, when copied to a SD card or Thumb drive in a root directory of DCIM can be imported by the camera kit and plays fine in the iPad's "Import" directory. It can be later deleted on the iPad when no longer needed.
