With Christina Ricci as Trixie!I didn’t know there was a movie, but watched the reruns as a kid.
Best… casting… choice… EVER!
With Christina Ricci as Trixie!I didn’t know there was a movie, but watched the reruns as a kid.
And Beastie Boys music. It’s also a J.J Abrams work - expect copious lens flares as cars swerve off cliffs...
That’s because JJ is actually Gozier the Gozarian, destroyer of franchises.J.J. Abrams is not content to totally screw up just Star Trek and Star Wars.
I’m sure they’ll try hard to make it not Speed Racist. It better be in Japanese with English subtitles
I wish they'd stick with the original storyline, but refresh it with new artwork and sound. That's what they did for Space Battleship Yamato (Starblazers). For the first time, I founded the remake, Yamato 2199, better than the original. But since it's JarJar Abrams, it's gonna be Yamato 2520?? all over again; a mockery of everything the original stood for. Hard pass for me.I will stick with the original series.
If this means the Apple car is going to be the Mach 5, then count me in!
"Hey Mach 5 turn on headlights." Saw blades come out slicing Chim Chim and Spritle in half. 😂Does this mean the Mach 5 will stop being able to have new features added after two racing seasons? Or, worse, will the steering wheel's buttons be replaced by Siri (Speed: "Hey Mach 5, go Homing Robot." Mach 5: "Now driving home.")?
JJ has no regard to the legacy of any IP he's gotten his hands on. Sorry but when you get to direct a Star Wars film with the original cast, and you don't have them share so much as a half second of screen time together, you are a hack and should never be allowed to touch another established franchise. EVER!They probably will. Abrams seems to have a much higher level of restraint than the Wachowskis.
Well it was 60's animation. I'm sure it was perfect with the Japanese either. 😉When watching as a kid, I always remember and wondered why their mouths seemed to move different from what they were actually saying. Haha, man the nostalgia!
The movie was made the Wachowski's (of The Matrix) and is truly something!I didn’t know there was a movie, but watched the reruns as a kid.
They haven't. At least not yet. FWIW, I'm guessing it's easier and cheaper to just use existing, beloved franchises instead of rewriting and reinventing the so called wheel from scratch every time. They really don't need to turn every franchise into a TV series.
A 2 hour movie is perfectly fine to tell a story. You don't need to spread that story over 9 hours.
I never watched the original, but I really enjoyed the Netflix version, it’s a shame they axed it so quickly.I actually enjoyed the live action Cowboy Bebop on Netflix, I was hoping it would get at least two seasons. Hard to compare it to the original, but it felt in the same universe and I liked the actors...
Agreed... very fun movie. The art style was so... eclectic. It looks even more dazzling if you are high. The Wachowski movie is very underrated and fun. The CGI was ahead of its time and turned people off, and the Wachowski's earnestness turned everyone else off (as it has for every post-Matrix project). But it's really a masterpiece about what it means to be an artist, and is beautiful (try to watch on the biggest screen possible.)
Wait, what are we talking about again?
Fans of the original didn't like how Vicious personality was drastically altered, Jet now has relatives he never had in the cartoon, and how both Julia and Vicious are featured prominently and early whereas in the anime you saw just short snippets of Julia that (eventually) hinted at some relationship between her and Spike while Vicious was talked about more than shown until the last episodes in the anime series. And Radical Edward doesn't get the origin story that the anime has, or much screen time at all honestly.I never watched the original, but I really enjoyed the Netflix version, it’s a shame they axed it so quickly.
Stopped reading at "J.J. Abrams. Not interested in any project he's a part of.
Apple has picked up a live-action "Speed Racer" series for Apple TV+, reports Variety. The series has reportedly been in the works for years now, and will be executive produced by J.J. Abrams.

"Speed Racer" is a Japanese automobile racing media franchise that originated in 1966 as a manga, and it was then adapted into an anime in 1967. It follows the adventures of titular character Speed Racer and his Mach 5 car. He has a team featuring his father, Pops Racer, his little brother Spritle, his pet chimpanzee Chim-Chim, and his girlfriend, Trixie.
The cartoon was previously made into a live action film in 2008, with the movie starring Emile Hirsch, but this would be the first time that it has been adapted into a live action television show.
The series will be written by Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez. Fitzgerald is known for his work on shows that include "Perry Mason," "Westworld," "Weeds," and "Friday Night Lights," while Martinez has worked on "The Last Ship," "Snowpiercer," and "Get Shorty."
J.J. Abrams previously executive produced Apple TV+ series "Little Voice," which was discontinued after one season, as well as "Lisey's Story." He will also serve as executive producer on upcoming Apple TV+ show "My Glory Was I Had Such Friends."

Worst part is the guy goes out of his way to do it. It's as if he gets joy out of it.Great, so JJ Abrams will kill yet another great franchise.
