This "Speed Racer" cartoon is news to me. It seems ridiculous. Maybe it won't suck if CGI is something like the Japanese show "BladeRunner: Black Lotus".

Well.

The original Japanese names are quite different, and mostly reflect the letters that everybody wears.

Speed is Mifune Go (this, in the Japanese name ordering of family name first)
Spritle is Mifune Kurio
Pops is Mifune Daisuke
Trixie is Shimura Michi

If they're going to do it, it'd be nice to go back to the Japanese names.

Speed Racer and Jonny Quest!
JQ for the world. Best thing I ever bought was the complete series on DVDs at Costco. Raised the kids with it. Not sure why it is not cited more often. Best opening music ever... When those trombones kick in you know it the world is a little bit more special.

I actually enjoyed the live action Cowboy Bebop on Netflix, I was hoping it would get at least two seasons. Hard to compare it to the original, but it felt in the same universe and I liked the actors...

Prediction: Apple version of the Disnification of Star Wars. Guaranteed woke. Hard pass.

The original was perfectly unique and fit the times. It’s unfortunate that’s apparently no longer possible. Put your thinking caps on, overpaid creatives, and come up with something on your own, and leave my childhood alone.

This will definitely show my age, but I loved Speed Racer as a kid. I probably won’t spoil those good memories by watching any sort of reboot. And I’m a big J.J. Abrams fan.

I also enjoyed it as a kid. It wasn't new at that point though. I think it played on Nick at Night or something. I'll definitely check this out.

Same here. When I was a kid, I looked like Speed... as an adult, I ended up looking like Pops. 😂

Here's my iPad Mini 5 with Product (RED) smartcover....

It could be worse. When I was young, I looked like Trixie. As an older adult, I also ended up looking like Pops. 🤨 (A mustache-free female version of Pops Racer. Wait, wouldn’t that make my character Drag Racer?) 🤔

I love that Smart Cover decal. I got a Hot Wheels version of the Mach 5 a few years ago.

I actually enjoyed the film adaptation of this. never seen the animation series but a live action one will be interesting.

Thats interesting information. But that’s a nope from me. Part of the fun of it, for me at least, watching it in North America, was the awkwardly anglicized version we got stuck with. Because of my own ancestry, which includes some Japanese heritage, I knew damn good and well there was no way Trixie was a Japanese name, and thought it was hilarious that the characters got stuck with these godawful names like “Spritle” that are laughable in English.

The name of “Speed Racer” evokes the theme song English speaking kids grew up with. It wouldn’t be the same hearing a song about Mifune Go being a demon on wheels. Although I would imagine a new theme song will be written, regardless.

Name one thing Jar Jar Abrams has been behind that in it's ENTIRETY is actually good? His whole resume is starting stuff that's really interesting at the beginning & then goes off the rails into the gutter. Usually 'cause he's never had a plan towards how to conclude things OR he just abandons it before it's finished like Lost & Star Wars. Then there's the situations where he has no understanding of the material and we end up with Star Trek being turned into Star Wars.

I''ll definately pass on the series. I enjoyed watching Speed Racer cartoon in the 1970's. I won't let that be ruined.
