Where to start?

  1. It costs money.
  2. Apple is not giving one away to every person on earth with lifetime cell service.
  3. It doesn't resurrect Steve Jobs.
  4. It doesn't make intellectually-challenged people more intelligent.
  5. It doesn't move people out of parents' basements.
  6. Pres. Obama still doesn't know how to use one.
  7. If a tank drives over it, it breaks.
  8. It doesn't cure cancer.

Clearly, it is a failure on many levels.

Clearly the jokers on the interwebs know how to make a better phone! It's funny with the iPhone 4s release people complained about the lack of a new design and now that it has a new design that is thinner, lighter, and larger display they still find reasons to complain. People won't be happy unless their phone has a 12 core CPU with a dedicated graphics processor that can run something like Witcher 2 at max settings all the while being a thin as a cracker. User experience will always trump tech spec games. This isn't 2004 here.

Get real people.

You're missing the point.

Why would I spend 100% the same price for a 1+ year OLD model. No. I won't. Sell the old $199 model to me for $149 and sure, you've got a deal.

Apple (and their fanboys) are the only people in the world that pay 100% full price for a 1+ year old model.

The term fanboys is so over-used. If someone wants to pay $199 for a one-year-old model, why does that make them a fanboy?

I'm curious as to what the symbol will be for the new "Lightning" connector, considering the Thunderbolt symbol is a lightning bolt. It can't be a cloud, as that's the symbol for iCloud.

What's Apple going to do???

Some quotes from the first couple pages of the iPhone 4 announcement discussion...

Sorry but we knew EVERYTHING already!
NO big surprise! What a letdown!

Total letdown. Where's my Evo?

nothing news,
it stays a phone for losers who wanna show it to their 14-year old friends

I'm off to get my Droid.

I am once again EXTREMELY underwhelmed by yet another Apple iPhone event. I REALLY REALLY wanted 64GB so of course there was not any capacity increase. Same screen size at 3.5 inches. Video chat is only over Wifi. EVERY OTHER FEATURE is what every other high end phone already has and most have had for awhile.

This is ridiculous. Apple needs to raise the bar. I'm getting tired of the iPhone.

Sound familiar?

It's a little harder to reduce in size - but this is the proposed logo

Have fun with that POS. returned mine in 20 hours. Light leakage, AWFUL battery life not to mention You pay the same for all apps they just aren't regulated so apps like espn don't fit the screen and have messed up font sizes. But have fun!

Did I mention it takes 6 hours to charge ;)

Well it's a great thing we have trial periods! But I've used one and it is entirely more useful and fun than a new iPhone with an extra row of square icons. The apps were wonderful and Android has features Apple is just releasing and spouting as revolutionary and magical and whatnot.

I've just been holding off to see if Apple would do anything interesting.

But they failed to.

It is easy to pick a part features of the iPhone 5 and claim that other phones have the same features, but do those phones have ALL of the features in one device?

- 16:9 high resolution display that still fits in a normal person's hand.
- An amazing point-and-shoot replacing camera.
- Thinnest uniform design with the best build quality.
- Twice as fast as the previous model.
- Extremely light weight.
- Wondeerful content ecosystem.

What more do people want from a _phone_?

Maybe the phone to actually shape like an apple.

People are just beyond RIDICULOUS

So the new iphone looks very nice but nothing worth paying extra cash if your contact isn't over. They really could have done something innovative with the programming since it has the extra power.. kinda of a let down in that department. I would suggest Apple to hire a motivated presenter/speaker because that presentation was dry and booorring. It did not make me wanna buy anything lol..

jesus man, its a phone -- what did you expect it to do? sport flying cheeseburgers out of the screen?
That would be nice. I expect being able to provide new cellphones at the time when the competitors are providing them, not a year later.
iPhone 5 is basically Galaxy II - which is very sad story.

Not bad.

Not bad

Except i have a few issues:

- being only higher, not wider, resolution is not increased by much on a slighter bigger screen size, but just like they did with the iPad 2 to iPad 3, they could have stuffed more pixels in horizontally, so it could be higher than 640 while making it more of an advantage selling point

- The Panorama mode looks really great where you have multiple photos… And while it takes advantage of the widescreen (16:9) on the iPhone 5 and new iPod nano's, it is IO 6 thats doing this, not the phone, so you can easily also do this from the iPad 3, when released next week. (Same with iPhone 4s) although if won't look as good. These *new* features always in software always makes it way to older handsets at some point.....

- Thinner design could have gone allot thinner.

They showed this off with the new nano….. the buttons redesigned, and the form factor went down.

They can do it…. Why did they keep the round buttons on the side of the iPhone 5? Waste of space. Redesign buttons, and slim it down more

If Apple did this, it would look about the same as the Samsung Galaxy S3 on thinnest and/or being lighter. This would have been a better selling point/wide eyed opener.. Not that it already isn't

On the whole... I quite like it....

Maybe Apple already knew what they were doing, and deliberately keeping this for next release. i dunno. Or the price factor.... But i'd gladly pay a bit more for a slimmer design if needed.

Seems strange that you mention the design could be thinner. It's already thinnest from any company, ever.

That's like saying to the Olympian, "Oh, you broke the world record. Lame. You could have done a lot better."

Question about 4G connectivity. I currently have the iPhone 4S factory unlocked and using T-Mobile, but only get EDGE data. T-Mobile's 4G (HSPA+) is supposedly available in the Portland area. Will the iPhone 5 give me HSPA+ data?

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently the answer is no. Need to have 1700 MHz band which the iPhone 5 does not support. Wish T-Mobile would speed up their 1900 MHz deployment. :(

This was the one thing I was disappointed by. At the very least, I was expecting iTunes to be released today. Late October?? Totally blue-balled.

They've just put out iTunes 10.7, with support for iOS6, Nanos, and Shuffles. I guess to appease us

Not so sad really. If the Galaxy III is that much better, why not just get it and be happy?

Yeah, and which is useless until they release iOS6 also, which won't be before the first iPhone 5 is delivered.

You mean like Usian Bolt in 08 in the 100? :D
