I'm going to guess that the growth of iCloud has alleviated the need for increased storage capacity. You no longer have to carry your entire media collection. If you have WiFi, 3G, or 4G, it's only a matter of seconds to download a song or video if you happen to not have it. 64 GB is still nothing to sneeze at.

Yearly costs, less secure, will never be available everywhere, speed performance varies... iCloud sucks and will never compare to local storage. Its a step backwards were you have to rent storage space.

64gb is a joke when you have apps that take 2gb by themselves and the high definition videos that are 1.5 to 2 gb.

Further you cant tell me flash prices haven't dropped at all in the three yrs 64gb has been available, 128gb should be easily replace 64 at the same price point.

So, the online stores have been down for 3 hours and the only thing new that we can rush out and buy immediately are ... earpods. Whoopie-doo

Why don't Apple time these events to coincide with actual release of products?

Iphone

So just like the iphone's front bezel is the antenna band also now the standard on every iPhone from now on and be the iconic look of every iphone?

I'm not saying one should download/stream everything. I'm saying that it's not that difficult to keep your most commonly listened to music on your device. 64 GB holds plenty for me. It's pretty rare for me to need to download a song.

As for videos, for non-iTunes purchased video I keep it on a server at home from which I stream with Plex. Usually on my iPad. If I'm on the road, I plan ahead of time for what I want to bring. If I know I won't have WiFi or 3G (again, rare), I download just what I plan on watching. Video consumption on my iPhone is a non-issue because I just don't enjoy watching movies or TV shows on that small a screen.

And I think this will be even less of an issue once LTE gets widespread rollout. I get that people have different usage patterns. But I have trouble believing that anyone fully utilizes their entire media library during periods of no high speed connection. And if you do, I'd argue that you are a minuscule proportion of the population.

BTW, what apps are you using that take 2GB? I'm just curious because I'm looking at my phone apps and the largest one I have is Weather HD at 327 MB. I'm not counting Music which is at 3.5 GB because of course that includes a lot of songs.

i might go up to 32GB, but i'm not an OCD pack rat where i need to carry around half my music collection and 50 games out of which i might only play a few on a regular basis. i went from 32GB to 16GB and i have space left over almost every day. usually 2GB on average

Hmmm... da*n, not fully convinced by the keynote... need to get hands on with iPhone 5 next to the Galaxy S3 before deciding...

The main reason for not being impressed with this is basically that I don't like the iPhone 5's design (it is just not as good as its predecessor, seriously, it's not). It's not really "ugly" or "bad", but nothing that would make me pay that much money. At least not that alone. The presentation brought up nothing cool, so I probably won't buy an iPhone. I don't know what I expected, usually Apple has some little surprises here and there, some design/engineering cherries that makes me want to have it. But I don't think it is my job to think of something I want to have in the phone. It's Apple's job. That's how I see it however.

photos and games

people use their phones to take pictures of kids and play games to/from work or while waiting. and keep kids busy with games/cartoons while waiting.

that's what apple is building for

This was the one thing I was disappointed by. At the very least, I was expecting iTunes to be released today. Late October?? Totally blue-balled.

I get that you're not that excited. But how can you say it's not as good as its predecessor? 2x faster processor, thinner, lighter, bigger screen (without substantially increasing dimensions). How is it inferior to the 4/4s?

iPhone 5 will cost £529

Erm...no thanks. I'll hang on to my 4S.
Good excuse to take a vacation in the US. In a state without sales tax. Welcome to Portland. :)

According to The Verve blog I watched.

There was no mention of the rumored Nano sim card?

Actually, it's pretty much like the old Nano (and not the Lumia), just looks rounded on some photos.

Really? ;)

Border looks familiar too.

Does your 12-year-old NEED a larger screen, different colors, and a better camera??

You're missing the point.

Why would I spend 100% the same price for a 1+ year OLD model. No. I won't. Sell the old $199 model to me for $149 and sure, you've got a deal.

Apple (and their fanboys) are the only people in the world that pay 100% full price for a 1+ year old model.

How I can say the iPhone 5 design (design) is inferior to the iPhone 4's? I look at it and think "No, I don't like it". I could explain why I think that, but I know that these forums are a really bad place for discussing design.

Not bad just ok.. sadly no capacity increases overall still want that 128GB touch. We've had the 64GB flash option since what 2009?

So at $199 you get 8GB more storage for the same price.
At $249 you get the 32GB for $50 Cheaper.
At $299 you get 32GB for Brand New iPod Touch.
At $399 you get 64GB Brand New iPod Touch.

I hope they do an 128GB option on the iPad (2013), hopefully margins are high enough that that is feasable.

I agree with you in wanting larger storage sizes...especially on the Touch and Classic. I think Apple just understands/believes that there is such a MINUTE PERCENTAGE of users that would actually need/want/purchase a 128GB flash drive-based Touch/Classic and thus pay $500+ for said unit. But the Touch does play videos and take pictures and all that other wonderful stuff so really the storage is warranted.

I have a 64GB iPhone 4S and have about 8GB free...I've got over 6000 songs on it (and 600 pix which are eating up about 2.5GB), a high percentage are 320k the rest are 192k. Using headphones and cars and boomboxes it all sounds fine because of the poor acoustics of those listening environments...it's only when you want true lossless and/or attach it to your home stereo do you (me) hear the limitations of MP3 format...even 320k.

I own 22,000+ songs...I have been collecting cds since they originated and am also an ex-dj. There are very, very few people out there with 10,000+ songs (10,000 songs would be 1000 cds with 10 tracks on each cd) they're either djs or diehard collectors or folks who just pirate everything for bragging rights of the # of songs they own. I'm the dj and collector. If you think about it, in any given year there are truly only 100 hit songs...so a decade of music is about 1000 songs. If you own every hit song since the '50s you own about 6000 hit songs. Even if you feel there are 150 hit songs per decade, that would be 9000 hit songs since 1950. The other 14,000+ songs in my library are the full cds (2 good hits on the cd and likely 12+ boring tracks) and the multiple remixes I have of thousands of songs.

Who knows...maybe Next Sept we'll see 128GB devices but I've kind of moved on considering that out of my 22,000 song collection I've got 6000+ hit songs on my iPhone at 192k or 320k...pretty sweet!

I'm trying to find the iPads from £249 on the website. The price appeared after the Store came back online!

Edit: Never mind they changed it back
