Threadripper 2 is too old at this point. TR3 won't be around for a while. Epyc Rome is due in months, not now. Apple would probably want to test a processor for a half year before deploying it.

The Xeon 28 core they are offering (Xeon gold 8180, which they showed at computex in the previous year with a chiller) is older than Threadripper 2.

$11K base price for a pro workstation and monitor? By "pro", do they mean other people working at Apple?

Rene Ritchie nails it. The display/stand pricing was a thud in the room.

Pro Display charges for the stand separately… probably the worst way to deflate the announcements at the end :-/

I hope that all the idiots, self-proclaimed "professionals", are now happy with the Lian-Li/iMac -like (in looks/price/noise/etc) new MacPro, they got what they deserved.

I also have to wonder, how many Pros want all those features in an LCD screen? Rather then an OLED screen?

Still no doubt it’ll look fantastic, and that Mac Pro has the potential to be one powerful desktop, reminds me off the Silicon Graphics desktops.
