"Starting with 8-core Xeon, 32GB memory, Radeo Pro 580X, 256GB SSD. Starts at $5,999"

They don't want to sell machines. Starting price should be 50% of that number.
Agree. I think Apple has finally gone off the deep end. I'm watching their stock price go down since the announcement. What is wrong with these people?

They are all so rich they've lost all connection with reality or what money is actually worth now.

The Xeon 28 core they are offering (Xeon gold 8180, which they showed at computex in the previous year with a chiller) is older than Threadripper 2.
Err, no. The 8180 is a Platinum grade processor. The 8180 with the chiller was a modified Xeon. A one-off by Intel. It was designed as a show piece.

Dell or HP, or both, began offering the 8180 once it became available to OEMs. One of the two offered dual processor systems. Other OEMs like Puget began to offer the 8180 later on.

Dual processor would be 56 cores/112 threads. I don't know what TR3 will begin at. Possibly 20 or 24 cores and go up from there. I've seen 60 cores thrown around for Rome, but again, I'm not sure if that's base or extended core count.
