Life Photos, I'm gonna let you finish, but 3D Touch is the greatest feature of all time.

It doesn't look as cool as I thought it would.

I actually thought they were about to announce built in cinemagraph support and I was excited. Cause I was thinking that they would be bringing back the brushes from iPhoto for iOS to facilitate picking put the stuff that would stay moving. And since the brush was there, giving us back the editing brushes

It doesn't work anything like the demos Apple had. Tried doing some of my 3 year standing against my red brick home outside. Had him make funny faces and do a smile. Wasn't like the Apple demo at all. It's more gif like.

Only Apple could get away with moving pictures as a tentpole feature.

Moving pictures=motion pictures=movies.

I've never used Vine, but I'm guessing that's what inspired this. I think if it were any other company, the press would be calling it a Vine-like feature, and there would be headlines like, "Do 6-second Vines need to be even shorter? Samsung says so!" And John Gruber would be writing some tripe about Samsung being out of ideas and copying everyone.
Microsoft and HTC introduced this feature, almost unnoticed, several months ago, and you were fine with that, right ?
Because it's so cool to bash Apple on an Apple forum, isn't it ?

Agreed. I'm sure Apple will continue to refine this. As of right now, it's a nice gimmick, but still a gimmick.
It is a gimmick and it will remain a gimmick. But a nice one, on occasions.
You can easily disable it.
I can't understand all this fuss about it.

I said it already existed in another form called Vine.

I didn't know Microsoft and HTC did something like it.

Which proves my point. No one else would come out with this as a tentpole feature and get away with it. Yet Tim Cook can go on the Stephen Colbert show and they show off a moving picture and straight-faced say it's not a movie and nobody laughs at the absurdity.

The iPhone 6s has some nice features. This one as a tentpole feature is silly.

I don't care about bashing Apple or any other company. I have no personal interest in any particular company—I comment on things as I see them. I've been buying Apple products since 1982. I like the majority of them or I wouldn't be on this forum.

When I say no other company can get away with it, I mean that it's weird that a feature like Live Photos gets headlines on actual news organizations' web-sites. I'm guessing Microsoft and HTC didn't, which is what my point was.

Apple's done some really, really cool stuff so people expect them to continue to. Not everything is as cool as the original iPhone, but there's still enough inertia from that product release that news organizations hang on to Apple's every word. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Just that no other company could get away with it. Microsoft couldn't. Google couldn't.

I even saw the women on The View talking about Live Photos. No one else could get away with it.

I think you are missing the point. They're photos but with added depth. You don't shoot like you're shooting video (like you would with Vine), you take a picture like normal and the "live" bit just adds a little extra content to your photo.

Apple is better than others in marketing and in refining features, even gimmicks like this one.
That's a pro on their part , non a defect.

This seems like a feature for those people trying to catch the perfect moment (smile, giggle, bark, etc) but since it isn't a sequence of 12mp images, it's isn't really very worthwhile for capturing an image of the perfect moment. You have a short movie but how useful that is I'm not sure.

You can already do this with an iPhone. Shutter burst has been on the iPhones since the iP5s at least. Just hold your finger down when you take a photo. I don't know if there is a degradation in image quality for each photo in the burst or not though...

3D Touch is a great feature but it's made the phone a lot heavier. My 6S+ is much more difficult to hold and use in one hand now than it was with my 6+, particularly with an Apple Silicone Case on it. I'll get used to it in time no doubt.
These kind of statements crack me up every time...... If serious. You're saying...... The extra "weight" of the 6s+ makes it harder to use than your 6+? You are joking right?

You certainly have a unique sense of humour then.

And yes... that's exactly what I'm saying. It is harder to balance the phone in the hand due to the extra weight. I don't have massive hands so for me it is a factor. I try to use my phone in one hand as much as I can and with the heavier phone it is more difficult.

What's your beef?

EDIT: Having just looked at your previous posts it seems you have an issue with pretty much everything so I don't know why I'm surprised.

But sir, the dog ate my homework!

- Oh a very likely story little Johnny, do you think I haven't heard that one before?

But sir, with my iPhone 6S featuring live photos and 3D touch, this time I have the evidence to prove it!

If you did it by mistake you can just go to edit and turn the Live Photo off by pressing the icon. Also, if you try to crop the photo it removes the live element permanently.

I think it's a great feature. I got a photo of a pint of Guinness settling for my lock screen. It's pretty cool - the bubbles go both up & down.

I've gone back and forth between switching Live Photos 'on' and 'off'. Thanks for the tip! I might just keep it 'on' and follow your suggestions should Live Photos not be useful to a photograph.

I wish Apple never invented a special name for this feature, and it Photos like always so that people would never think of comparing it to videos, Vine, do special posing for it or any other absurdity.

It's just a way to better remember the moment when you're watching through your past photos, there shouldn't be any special treatment to Live Photos compared to normal Photos. It's like automatically adding a short remark to your photos, but in this case the remark is in form of video.

My beef? no beef... just find it hard to believe that less than an ounce difference (6.77 vs 6.07) makes the phone harder for you to handle one handed vs your 6 plus.

As far as live photos go..... Not sure why all the fussing. It took a bit to "learn" how to do this correctly but there is no reason every one can't duplicate apple's lp of that little girl. I like it.... won't use it a ton but it's a neat thing to have for times you use it.

That's mostly up to the photographer...

Photographers do not have to anticipate what and low long is recorded before they press the shutter ... And than need to remember to keep recording .

This is more movie taking, it's not photography.

It's part of the framing for the picture ... A good photographer have to keep in mind the tool he's using and the result he's expecting...
Btw you are doing much ado about nothing.
It's a gimmick, good for some kind of pictures, not for others.
You don't like it, you can disable it. Or discharge it even after the shoot.
Problem solved.
