They'll "play" on at least an iPhone 5, too.Another thing about these Live photos is that you can send them via iMessage and someone on an iPhone that isn't a 6S or 6S+ can watch them by tapping on them also. Did it yesterday with a 5C.
Why can't IPads have Live Photos it will look even better on IPad Pro hope they put it in a IOS update
Only Apple could get away with moving pictures as a tentpole feature.
Moving pictures=motion pictures=movies.
I've never used Vine, but I'm guessing that's what inspired this. I think if it were any other company, the press would be calling it a Vine-like feature, and there would be headlines like, "Do 6-second Vines need to be even shorter? Samsung says so!" And John Gruber would be writing some tripe about Samsung being out of ideas and copying everyone.
I keep going back and forth between "gimmick" and "gimmick but keep an open mind".It's really not that complicated. It's a .jpg and a 3 second .mov file. However, in my opinion the low frame rate of the .mov file makes it unsuitable for most common point-and-shoot moments. Probably in the right situation with the right forethought it will be OK.
This link is to a shared One Drive folder containing the .jpg and .mov files from a Live Photo I took (.mov files are prohibited from being attached here).
My photo is definitely not the use case Apple is looking for. As I saw in some article, the less motion the better and the motion should be secondary to the subject of the photo. Like a kid standing still on the beach with waves in the background. However, creative folks might make something awesome. I'm looking forward to see what they can do.
Live Photos are cool, but 3D Touch will change the whole game from here on out.
Others have said they'd prefer that the photo didn't have the post-pic movement.i'd much prefer the photo didn't have the pre-pic movement. just start from the moment of a photo and continue forward.. as it is now - like the dog in the video - seems disorienting jumping back in time. it'd be nice to have settings to adjust this.
No it's a great feature, will never get old to me. I don't share loads of photos so that isn't a big deal anyway. What a ****ing useless gimmick. This is the kind of false feature we've been used too, that you'll use a few weeks, then realise you can share them with almost nobody or nobody gives a ****, and so give it up.
No not at this time. It will revert to just the photo in anything that can't read the live photo.
I think it's a great feature. I got a photo of a pint of Guinness settling for my lock screen. It's pretty cool - the bubbles go both up & down.
Isn't that what the little yellow word "live" accomplishes? It pops up when you take a pic, lingers for what feels like 1.5 sec, then goes away.Live photos is cute but it really needs an indicator to let you know when the post-1.5 seconds are over.
I believe they are saved as a .jpg and .mov and are both used during playback
You sad tw*tI can't wait for third party apps to support this. It is the single reason why I upgraded my phone this year.
Huh? It does. There's a live indicator for the entire capture.Live photos is cute but it really needs an indicator to let you know when the post-1.5 seconds are over.
Its what is called a keyframe then a video. Apple are really getting desperate by promoting a new phone on the back of this as a key feature.

In 9.1 it automatically turns off recording if you put your phone away, which is great.
I agree that the blur is jarring. I would have preferred a simple fade from the still.
