I switched over to iOS just over a year ago after using WP for a few years (and before that, Android). WP launched their version of live photos a couple years before Apple on their high end Lumia phones and their version was light years ahead of Apple's version and actually sort of fun. I find Apple's implementation to be annoying and jumpy in comparison to the WP version so turned it off as soon as I figured out how.
I dont use it as one site I use means I cannot post the pictures.
plus find it pointless and annoying.
sometimes use iphone to take photos of windows product keys etc that are worn then zoom in to make then out but live pointless for such a job
I used to think they were a bit pointless. With the new memories feature that uses the cpatured video as part of the slideshow/montage I've found it to be a really nice feature.
Recently went on holiday to Disneyland and left the Live Photos feature on. The memories compilation that was generated at the end made a really amazing compilation of the trip, seeing the photos of the characters moving and waving and being animated made such a big difference. It totally made me see how they can really bring a photo montage to life and I've completely changed my opinion of the Live Photos. I leave the feature on most of the time now.
I use it by default with my 128GB 7. If a situation calls for a still photo, I'll turn it off. It's fun, and with OIS on the 4.7" iPhone, much more useful this year.
I thought I would never use this feature, but since getting the 7 I love using it. It's definitely just a gimmicky, fun thing to do so I treat it as such. It's actually about the only thing I use 3D touch for.
