While I dont see on any screen that the login field is getting shown correctly, yes the cancel button looks fine and the fields may look fine, stuff around it is messed up.

Try booting in safe mode like suggested but I still say your graphics failed on you. Even if the graphics are failing, that doesnt mean nothing can be correctly displayed. There can be parts which are fine and parts which are not.

I blurred out my info so that part is working fine, albeit extremely slow... As in 5 minutes or more just to log in. I only see the graphics issues upon login although I nwcer watch videos or do any photo work anymore due to the slowness of my computer; it's impossible and a waste of complete time. Thank you for your feedback!!!

I'm happy to report that somehow, one of Tim Cook's advisors read my letter and called me. we had a discussion and we will be in contact.

If I did develop the GPU issue (early 2011 15" MBP) do you think I would be able to take advantage of the repair program given I have upgraded the memory and fitted an SSD in place of the optical drive? I no longer have the original memory or optical drive so could not retro fit.

I don't believe that the optical drive is considered to be "user replaceable", although the hard drive is. I've kept my original drive and battery (the two things I've replaced) just to avoid any problems with service.

For what it's worth, mine's an Early 2011, I've had it for almost four years, and the GPU is still working fine (although the SD card reader decided to die yesterday!)

I was in your situation two months ago. I had sent my 2011 15-inch macbook pro to the Texas repair center 3 times, and they had replaced every component in the computer (including the logic board two times). My 2011 macbook pro was out of warranty, and I paid Apple $310 to "fix" it.

My local genius bar didn't want to replace the computer and insisted that they never replace out of warranty computers. I left the genius bar and called AppleCare and asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor called my genius bar and arranged for me to receive a brand new computer.

I'm pretty sure that Apple has an internal 3 repair lemon policy. When Apple repairs your computer, they give you a new 90-day warranty, which is subject to US warranty laws. US warranty law doesn't require manufactures to have warranties, but since Apple includes a 90-day warranty with repairs, they are instituting a new warranty and are then subject to warranty law. US warranty law states that if an issue is not fixed within a "reasonable" amount of repairs, then the customer is owed a replacement or refund.

I never brought up warranty law in my discussions with the supervisor. I did, however, tell the supervisor that every single component in my macbook pro had been replaced and some parts had been replaced twice. I told him that future repair attempts were just wasting my time and that each subsequent repair was damaging Apple's relationship with me as a future customer.

I didn't flat out ask for a new computer, but I did ask for "other options" and said that the current repair process was obviously not working for me. Also, make sure you speak to a supervisor. I would insist on it. I don't think standard AppleCare employees have the power to pick up the phone, call the local genius bar, and arrange for a new macbook pro replacement.

So I just got my Mac back today(actually still in the store) and they replaced my entire display and clamshell due to video distortion. Idk if that will help with my extreme lag... What do you guys think?

Edit: I'm still having a lot of slowness. I'm going to test it out for a few more days...

Overall system "slowness" can sometimes be fixed by an SMC reset. You may have to try to reset it a few times.

If you removed the AMD kexts, you're going to have to reinstall OS X to get them back so that your Mac will be smooth again.

Under the new program they're replacing the faulty MBP's with a new motherboard which resolves all the issues. How you can tell whether or not you have the new logic board is that the new logic board supports 1600 MHz RAM where as the old one had support for 1333 MHz. To check, go to the apple in the left corner. Click ABout this Mac. And go to the Ram tab. If it says 1600, it will be running at that speed.

The original LBs already support 1600MHz.

I put in 1600MHz sticks into my early-2011 15" (reballed the GPU without sending it in to Apple), and it worked at 1600.

Hmm...? Same issue again...

Put Mavericks back on. It's most likely that your upgrade to Yosemite back in November caused most (or all) of your problems.

Until they stabilize the graphics drivers in Yosemite, I would stick with Mavericks.

If you need help, bring it to the Apple Store and have them do the downgrade for you. Bring your Time Machine backup disk with you too (assuming you have one.) They can use that to restore your home directory. I would not restore Applications from the Time Machine backup either. I would reinstall the third-party apps separately after the downgrade is complete. In fact, I would just do this when restoring the Time Machine backup:

Uncheck Applications.
Uncheck Computer & Network Settings.

Should be safe to restore the other things that are checked by default.

At this stage, it's not a matter of unstable drivers or not.

It will still happen anyway, and it's already a sign that it's failing.

Besides, the OP has nothing to lose by sending it back. Apple has a repair program for it, and since it's his 3rd repair, he may get an entirely new rMBP for free.

The glitching being displayed does not necessarily represent a hardware problem. It is more symptomatic of a software/driver problem, than it is hardware. For example, the login prompt and the "Cancel" button, as well as the bar across the top showing Wi-Fi signal, etc, are all crystal clear. It is most likely not a hardware problem.

Not every graphical-related problem is instantly "Radeongate".

The OP stated it started happening in November, and has been doing this since then. That's when they upgraded to Yosemite. The "Radeongate" issue, once it starts happening, gets progressively worse until the system fails to boot. It does not stay the same for three months like it has with the OP.

Here's a thread on the Apple Community Forums. Same symptoms: graphics corruption, extreme slowness. OP in that thread has an iMac, but there are also people in the thread with Macbook Pros having the same issue. In every case where a responder has fixed their issue, they downgraded from Yosemite to Mavericks.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6604981?start=0&tstart=0

OP: Downgrade to Mavericks.

I've said my bit here. There is nothing more to discuss here, as far as I'm concerned.

I had a video issue that began AFTER i got the premier protection plan with DTV. It covers laptops and I said, well at some point, Im going to have to send this in for repairs, as the video issue slowly started interfering with my life.

DTV sent it back to me unrepaired the first time, they cleaned out the case and reset the heat sink etc. The 2nd time they just took the brick and replaced it with a retina 15. i had a 17, with a TB hd, so it wasn't compatible, but they offered me $700 and that was like a total loss. so i took the retina.

If you can't be with the one you love honey, love the one you are with?

Hahahaha. About a week after I got the brand new in the box, with cellophane retina, I found out apple finally caved in on a suit to repair the 17's, on the video issue. Thank goodness there are people out there that can afford to sue apple, because I met many like myself who attorneys wouldn't give the time of day on the same issue.

Anyways, just a thought, that you might want to see if you have options for repair that might help you get through this stage.

I'm just not the type to go around throwing silver bricks into freezer's and ovens and I'm so glad there was an insurance related workaround so that it wouldn't be a total loss because that would have killed my apple buying spree and would have dramatically lowered my consumer confidence into retaliation and retribution which is not a place i want to go with apple.

I was finally approved for a replacement. 15"" retina MacBook Pro, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, here I come! I'm so glad this was finally resolved... Sort of. My computer was never fixed but at least Apple made it right. I hoping this new computer will last me many, many years.

It will, since it does not have a GT 750M GPU.

Oh my goodness, I'm receiving the 2.5GHZ MBP with 512 GB SSD and 750M instead now! And they're throwing in a super drive as well. I'm so excited to have a functioning computer that'll be a beast!

Edit; I'm picking it up today!!!
